Job Description

 

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant for a 1 year fixed term contract to start in July. This role is ideal for someone with strong Xero expertise and hands-on experience within the construction industry. You will play a key role in managing financial operations, ensuring accuracy, and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions using Xero for 6 companies and 70 staff
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and budgets
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and job costings
  • Manage sub-contractor payments and oversee payroll
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations (GST, PAYE, etc.)
  • Monitor project costs, margins, and profitability
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting processes
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and stakeholders

Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in New Zealand as an Accountant or similar role
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software
  • Previous experience in the construction industry (essential)
  • Understanding of job costing, project accounting, and contract billing
  • Familiarity with construction management/job tracking systems like LenTune
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
