Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team on a full-time, 12-month contract.

Play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial data, delivering reconciliations, supporting revenue and cost accuracy, and contributing to timely, high-quality reporting. This hands-on role will support month-end close, reporting and financial control across a multi-entity environment.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will sits within the Nous global Finance team supporting Australian, UK and Canadian accounts.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, intercompany and transfer pricing entries, ensuring accuracy, completeness and appropriate supporting documentation
  • Own the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations across key accounts (including bank, intercompany, GST and control accounts), proactively investigating and resolving reconciling items
  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, including oversight of additions, disposals and depreciation in line with accounting policy
  • Support and apply revenue recognition principles (including subscription-based revenue), ensuring integrity and alignment of revenue, WIP and cost data across systems
  • Contribute to the effective delivery of the month-end close, taking ownership of assigned areas and ensuring deadlines are met to a high standard
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly reporting packs, including supporting schedules, analysis and commentary where required
  • Prepare and review payment times reporting, ensuring completeness, accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements
  • Partner with Nous’ corporate tax accountant to prepare supporting documentation for tax returns, FBT and ad hoc tax matters
  • Assist with banking covenant calculations and related reporting, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financing requirements
  • Support external audit and half-year review processes, including preparation of audit-ready documentation and responding to auditor queries in a timely manner
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance controls, streamline workflows and improve data quality
  • Support broader finance initiatives, adhoc analysis and projects as required.

And the practical experience and skills required:

  • Demonstrated experience, 3–5 years, in an Accountant or similar role within a corporate environment, with exposure to month-end close, reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance. CA/CPA designation highly desirable
  • Strong Excel capability, including working with reconciliations, large datasets and financial analysis
  • Experience with ERP and reporting systems (e.g. Certinia, Salesforce, Kantata, Microsoft Power BI)
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, completeness and well-documented outputs
  • Proven ability to deliver to deadlines, particularly in a structured month-end environment
  • Responsive and proactive in managing queries, with clear and timely communication
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to efficient and effective finance operations
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic and evolving environment
  • Strong work ethic and a willingness to take ownership of responsibilities
  • A background in a professional services environment is highly regarded, particularly within consulting or project-based businesses.
