The Accountant position supports the accounting operations of Vanderbilt University by partnering with the Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting to ensure the General Ledger is up to date with the most accurate information, analyzes and reviews financial data, and preparesreportsforbothinternalandexternalpurposes.TheAccountantmustdisplayacomprehensive understanding of Vanderbilt’s mission and vision and strive to meet Finance departmental goals by demonstrating an understanding of academic accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Vanderbilt Universitypolicies and procedures.Thisposition will focus on fixed asset and capital project accounting.
As a member of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Team, the Accountant facilitates and maintains strong,collaborativerelationshipswithVanderbilt’sfaculty,andstudentsandidentifiesadditionalwaysto be of service, ensuring customer satisfaction.
The Accounting and Financial Reporting team is the single point of contact for all centralized accounting and financial reporting activities of the university. This team maintains the general ledger and chart of accounts and implements internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial records and reportingforVanderbilt.Thisteamcollaborativelyapproachesaccountingandfinancialreportingtopics and questions and maintains effective and efficient accounting operations that ensure the accuracy of financialinformationincompliancewithallfinancialregulationsanduniversitypoliciesandprocedures.

Availabletoprovidecustomerservicetouniversitydepartments.Responsibilitiesincludeworking to resolve various issues such as recording transactions, reconciling accounts and communicating process and policy changes.
Preparemonthlygeneralledgeraccountreconciliationstimelyandelevateissuestothe Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting.
Assistwithdevelopinganddocumentingbusinessprocessesandaccountingpoliciestomaintain and strengthen internal controls.
Evaluateandrecommendimprovementsinaccountingsystemprocedurestoensureaccurate application of accounting principles.
Participateregularlyinprocessimprovementinitiativesunderindirectsupervisionand oversight.
Apply critical thinking to financial and other information presented within the scope of responsibilities,researchissues/questionsrelatedtofinancialdata,andcommunicateinformation to management in a timely and effective manner.
