Job Description

1.Manage the accounting function
Set targets for all direct reports
Undertake performance reviews for all direct reports
2. Manage Accounts Receivable
Oversee the management of all monies received by TDC Insurance Company by supervising:
- Payment handling procedures
- Petty cash
- adjustments
3. Manage Accounts Payable
Oversee the management of all monies payable by TDC Insurance by supervising:
- All payments to external customers and suppliers
- All payments to internal customers and suppliers
Oversee the management of all monies payable by TDC Insurance by supervising:
- All payments to external customers and suppliers
- All payments to internal customers and suppliers
4. Support the Operations Manager with the management of the end of period close off
Support the management of the month end close off by supervising:
- Journal entries
- Receipts
- Claims recoveries
5. Manage Credit Control
Oversee the management of Credit Control by supervising:
- Pre-contract credit control
- Post-contract credit control
6. Management Accounts
Oversee the production of the monthly Management Accounts by supervising:
- Bank reconciliations
- Journal entries
- Trial balance
- Income statement
- Balance sheet
- Tax computations
- Sign off
7. Manage Investments
Oversee the management of the company investments by supervising:
- The retention and filing of investment documentation
- An up-to-date schedule of current investment
- New investments
- The reporting of the investment position
8. Manage Regulatory Returns
Oversee the management of the company’s regulatory position by supervising:
- Regulatory returns due to the registrar
9. Manage Budgets
Oversee the budget by supervising:
- The preparation and submission of the budget
- Monthly variance analysis and reporting against the budget
10. Manage Reinsurance Premium Adjustment
Oversee the management of annual reinsurance adjustment by supervising:
- The collation and submission of reinsurance adjustment data
11. Manage actuarial review
Oversee the annual actuarial review by supervising:
- The collation and submission of data needed by the actuary
12. Manage Financial Accounts
Oversee the production and sign off the annual financial accounts off by supervising:
- The production of the annual return
- The annual audit
13. Report to and support the General Manager
Provide support to the General Manager as requested
Deputise for the General Manager in his/ her absence
14. Mentor Junior Accountants
Provide support and guidance on accounting matters to the junior accountants
Identify training and professional development needs within the accounting function
Provide training where possible
Request training where beyond personal training capabilities

Requirements

Degree level education.
Must have or be undertaking formal accounting qualifications.
Must be undertaking or have completed Insurance Diploma (CII).
At least 5 years in an accounting position and detailed knowledge of the Accounting Manual.
The Accounts Manager must be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of technical accounting and insurance.
