: Accountant

Reporting to:

Finance Manager / CFO

Location

: NAIROBI

Job Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely financial reporting, ensuring statutory and tax compliance, and strengthening internal controls to support effective decision-making within the petroleum business.
1.
Key Responsibilities

a)
Financial Accounting & Reporting

i. Prepare month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
ii. Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate classification of transactions.
iii. Prepare monthly management accounts and support statutory financial statements.
iv. Provide variance analysis and insights to support business performance reviews.
b)
Accounts Payable & Receivable Management

i. Process supplier invoices, payment requests, and supplier reconciliations.
ii. Manage customer invoicing, collections support, and ageing reports.
iii. Ensure completeness and accuracy of supporting documentation for all payments and receipts.
iv. Support credit control and follow up on overdue balances where required.

ax & Statutory Compliance

i. Prepare and submit tax returns and statutory filings in line with local regulations.
ii. Maintain tax schedules and support tax audits and regulatory inquiries.
iii. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
d)
Audit & Internal Controls

i. Maintain proper documentation and audit trials for financial transactions.
ii. Support internal and external audits and implement agreed corrective actions.
iii. Strengthen controls to reduce errors, fraud risk, and non-compliance.
e)
Budgeting & Cash Support

i. Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
ii. Assist with cashflow forecasting and monitoring of bank reconciliations.
iii. Coordinate with operations/procurement to ensure cost control and budget discipline.


Requirements


Key Qualifications and Experience

i. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
ii. Professional qualification (CPA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) is an added advantage.
iii. Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in oil & gas/energy.
iv. Strong knowledge of general ledger, reporting, and tax compliance.
v. Experience with ERP/accounting systems and strong Excel skills.
vi. High attention to detail with strong analytical capability.
vii. Strong integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to compliance.
viii. Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
ix. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
x. Team-oriented with the ability to work across functions.
