Job Description

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN), parent company of Liberty, is a diversified international generation, transmission, and distribution utility. AQN is committed to providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy and water solutions through our portfolio of utility investments to over one million customer connections, largely in the United States and Canada.

At Algonquin, our vision is to be the most trusted utility service provider in North America – a premium regulated utility, known for our customer focus, commitment to sustainability, and strong community partnerships. Our employees are at the heart of that vision. We believe that when people are empowered to learn, grow, and contribute their ideas, we can achieve remarkable results together.

We are building a culture that values integrity, inclusivity, and innovation. By joining Algonquin, you’ll be part of a team that is shaping the future of energy and water, while creating long-term value for our customers, communities, employees, and shareholders.

Purpose

Build and maintain trusted relationships with the company’s strategic commercial, industrial, and municipal accounts, as well as developers and community partners, including local elected officials (mayors, town managers, city council). This role connects customer growth, community engagement, and regional economic development by ensuring that the company’s largest customers and communities receive responsive, high-quality service and partnership. They proactively identify opportunities for load growth, energy efficiency, and community investment; supports service reliability and project coordination; and ensures that Liberty is viewed as a trusted local partner that contributes to both business success and community well-being.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with medium and strategic commercial, industrial, and municipal customers, ensuring a deep understanding of their operations, priorities, and future growth plans.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services (electric, natural gas, or water depending on jurisdiction), promote energy efficiency programs, and support sustainability initiatives.
  • Partner with developers, business organizations, and local economic development agencies to attract new load and investment to the region.
  • Support preparation of proposals, rate estimates, and service connection plans for new or expanding customers.
  • Represent the company at targeted business, trade, and community events to strengthen visibility and partnership.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for assigned strategic accounts within each region, providing responsive service and proactive communication.
  • Coordinate internally with operations, billing, engineering, and regulatory teams to ensure prompt and accurate issue resolution.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local elected officials within their territory (mayors, town managers, city council).
  • Support customers during planned and unplanned outages, service interruptions, or project-related impacts.
  • Participate in community and municipal meetings to facilitate productive communication between the company and local leaders, including permitting, construction, and infrastructure discussions.
  • Represent Liberty at community and business events, supporting the company’s reputation as a responsive and engaged community partner.
  • Support storm or emergency response assignments as required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely information in the company CRM, including customer contacts, growth leads, and energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Track and report customer interactions, community engagement activities, and account progress to ensure visibility across the organization.
  • Use CRM insights to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within assigned accounts or communities.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in business development, community relations, government affairs, or related field
  • Utility or adjacent industry experience preferred
