Job Description

As a Real Estate Financing Group Account Manager, you help serve, prospect for, solicit, and develop and maintain business relationships with members and clients. You help sell business products and services through multiple distribution channels based on member/client needs and current strategies and practices. You develop and maintain business partnerships with major clients and accounts—primarily corporations, associations and groups to ensure they are getting the most of their products and services and are fully satisfied with them. You drive results by actively helping your unit achieve its sales and business development objectives. You are responsible for accounts with considerable development potential for your sector or the organization. You work with clients with complex, diverse needs. The ability to communicate effectively and thoroughly understand clients’ expressed needs is therefore essential. Your complex work and initiatives require extensive knowledge of the organization and your line of business.
You lead and serve as specialist and resource person for clients and practitioners. You represent Desjardins and enter the organization into important agreements with clients. You also have leeway and many opportunities to establish and negotiate product and service terms. Interpersonal savvy is therefore essential. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Work closely with the Senior Relationship Managers to review and structure new loan requests

  • Underwrite new loans, gather relevant market information to substantiate recommendation, and prepare investment summaries that outline the details, analysis and merits of the loans

  • Evaluate loan risks and establish appropriate loan amount and loan pricing based on the institution’s risk appetite

  • Prepare and issue term sheets and commitment letters upon approval by Senior Management

  • Ensure legal requirements, prefunding conditions and due diligence conditions are satisfied prior to funding

  • Review third party reports to ensure that they satisfy and comply with all the approved loan conditions, internal policies and guidelines and prudent risk management practices

  • Underwrite amendments, renewals, refinances and annual reviews and assist with the negotiation of any amendments to terms and conditions, as required

  • Review cost consultant reports and prepare draw requests for all loan advances

  • Work with the loan servicing department to manage funding of initial and subsequent loan advances on all financings

  • Perform any other work or duties required for the success of the team or as assigned by the Group Head

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration, with a Major in Urban Land Economics/Real Estate, Finance or equivalent

  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in the real estate lending industry

  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered

  • Knowledge of French is required

  • Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking partners, members and/or clients

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and Word

  • Knowledge of the commercial real estate marketplace

  • knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting

  • knowledge of the various stages of real estate development and construction projects
