Account Manager Automotive

Position Objective

The Account Manager Automotive is responsible for the strategic and operational management of assigned automotive Tier1 customer accounts. The role focuses on developing strong customer relationships, identifying and driving new business opportunities, supporting design-in and sourcing activities, securing design wins, and achieving revenue, pipeline, and profitability targets in close collaboration with regional and global sales, product, engineering, program management, and support teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume sales responsibility for assigned automotive Tier1 customer accounts and manage related opportunities, revenue, forecasting, account plans, and budget targets.

  • Develop and execute Tier1-specific account strategies to achieve design wins, revenue growth, and sustainable expansion across customer programs, vehicle platforms, domains, and future technology roadmaps.

  • Build a comprehensive understanding of the Tier1 customer’s organization, program landscape, sourcing strategy, technology roadmap, and decision-making processes, while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across purchasing, engineering, product planning, program management, quality, and management.

  • Lead commercial engagements with Tier1 customers, including RFIs, RFQs, pricing discussions, sourcing activities, strategic agreements, and contract closures in alignment with Business Unit, Legal, Finance, and Customer Service.

  • Coordinate quote preparation, customer requirements, sourcing portals, program assumptions, commercial milestones, invoicing topics, and production-related business requirements for Tier1 programs.

  • Collaborate with Product Management, the Automotive Business Unit, engineering, and program teams on product positioning, roadmap alignment, cost analysis, NRE discussions, and project setup from early engagement through nomination, SOP, and lifecycle management.

  • Coordinate Tier1 technology reviews, sourcing and approval processes, customer meetings, workshops, trade shows, and customer events.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant customer, export, cybersecurity, quality, and contractual requirements for assigned Tier1 accounts.

  • Monitor Tier1 customer strategies, OEM program requirements, competitor activities, and market trends to derive strategic recommendations and position the company’s portfolio effectively.

  • Contribute to monthly reports, account reviews, pipeline updates, management briefings, and best-practice sharing in regional and global sales meetings.

  • Represent the company at Tier1 management meetings, industry events, customer forums, and strategic partner engagements.

Candidate Profile

  • Several years of experience in technical sales, key account management, or business development in the automotive environment, ideally with Tier1 customers, vehicle programs, and global customer organizations.

  • Solid understanding of automotive Tier1 development and sourcing processes, including OEM program requirements, RFIs/RFQs, design-in, nomination, SOP, EOL, quality requirements, and program management processes.

  • Experience with commercial negotiations, pricing strategies, contractual structures, strategic agreements, NRE topics, forecasts, and budget planning with Tier1 customers.

  • Strong ability to build and develop long-term relationships with Tier1 stakeholders at management and operational levels.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess customer program strategies, market trends, competitive positioning, customer requirements, and commercial opportunities.

  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders in matrix organizations and coordinate cross-functional account, product, engineering, and program teams.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in German and English.
