Job Description

What began in 2017 as an idea on the back of a napkin has quickly become an award-winning, fastest-growing communications firm working with some big-name consumer and B2B technology brands. At SourceCode, we’re focused on bringing brains and hustle, humanity and technology, creativity and business intelligence back to public relations.

We are seeking a seasoned agency professional to join our team as either an Account Director or Senior Account Director, depending on experience. In this role, you will act as a vital strategic lead, driving high-impact storytelling, counseling senior client executives, managing account profitability, and mentoring the next generation of PR talent. Whether executing deep enterprise tech campaigns or shaping agency-wide innovation, you are a bold, people-first leader who balances creative vision with disciplined commercial execution.

What You’ll Do

  • Client Strategy & Counsel: Serve as a trusted lead across high-profile accounts, providing high-level strategic direction to senior client executives. Develop long-term PR plans aligned with client business objectives and confidently navigate difficult conversations or productive client pushback when necessary.
  • Crisis & Narrative Excellence: Act as a trusted source during client crises by conducting risk assessments and drafting proactive communications. Interview executives to build robust thought leadership platforms and translate complex technical innovations into media-friendly narratives.
  • Portfolio Management & Business Operations: Take accountability for account health, revenue forecasting, and resource allocation to optimize team utilization and minimize over/under-service. Oversee client contracts, KPIs, and monthly/annual scopes of work.
  • Media & Integrated Strategy: Build sophisticated, long-term media and engagement strategies spanning media, analyst, and social landscapes. Maintain absolute editorial quality control across the portfolio and leverage a strong network of established relationships across Tier-1 national business and trade media.
  • Organic Growth: Proactively identify expansion opportunities within your current roster to drive organic business development and maintain high client retention rates.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Directly manage, coach, and inspire team members, establishing clear professional goals and delivering targeted training to upskill junior and mid-level practitioners.
  • Innovation & Agency Leadership (SAD Level): Lead teams in adopting emerging PR technologies and alternative communication channels, while expanding leadership footprints into global PR management.

Requirements

What You’ll Have

For the Account Director Level:

  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive PR and marketing experience, with significant experience in a corporate communications or digitally minded PR client leadership role.
  • Account Mastery: At least two years of experience explicitly operating as the strategic account lead for multiple complex clients.
  • Tech Literacy: Deep experience working within the Enterprise Tech sector, with the ability to seamlessly translate technical capabilities to a broad audience.
  • Media Network: A proven track record of securing Tier-1 national business and industry trade opportunities.

For the Senior Account Director Level:

  • Experience: 10-12+ years of progressive agency and/or in-house communications marketing experience, with extensive experience leading teams and managing high-profile accounts. Global account management experience navigating international media landscapes is highly preferred.
  • Strategic Autonomy: Proven capability to take loose executive direction and independently build meaningful, multi-layered strategies and plans for clients.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong, advanced understanding of agency operations, budget management, resource allocation, and team utilization constraints.
  • Advanced Management: Comfortably lead difficult staff conversations, troubleshoot team challenges alongside HR, and confidently develop and execute Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) when necessary.

About SourceCode Communications

The idea for SourceCode came about in 2017, written on the back of a napkin, over a drink or two (ok… definitely two) in a dingy bar in downtown San Francisco after tech PR industry veterans Greg Mondshein and Rebecca (Becky) Honeyman felt it was their time to do things a bit differently. Setting out to fix what they felt was broken in tech PR, the pair launched SourceCode with the mission of evolving public relations and marketing communications by bringing together data and insights, creative thinking, and a healthy dose of humanity.

SourceCode has continued to rise the ranks, earning the agency a reputation for executing creative, needle-moving client campaigns and being one of the PR industry’s best places to work – accolades that have earned the agency more than 50 awards to date.

In 2022, SourceCode officially expanded its service offerings to encompass creative and digital capabilities, solidifying the agency as a fully integrated partner for its growing roster of clients. In 2023, SourceCode opened its doors in London, marking its first official step toward global expansion.

Beyond its client work, SourceCode is committed to inspiring and enabling brands, communities, and individuals to grow and change the world, building a brighter, bolder future for us all. The agency invests significantly to champion equity, social justice, and sustainable, environmentally-friendly growth, infusing our work and relationships with empathy and real human understanding. This commitment includes the operation of the Diversity Marketing Consortium, a NYS 501c3 organization that provides pro bono marketing services to diverse and underrepresented startup founders, being a member of the Clean Creatives, and achieving B-Corp certification.

As SourceCode enters its next phase of growth, our mission remains to keep humanity at the center of everything we do and advise clients no matter what technological changes the future may bring.
