Job Description

Accessioning Clerk Trainer is under the direction of the Accessioning Supervisor. This person performs daily training of accessioning activities of receiving specimens, accessioning specimens, and scanning of requisitions into scan system. The person in this position handles more complex procedures and at a higher efficiency rate.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Trains and oversees all new hires in all Accessioning processes. Each new hire will be trained for a minimum of 2 weeks with the trainer.
  • Completes all new hires onboarding their first day of employment.
  • Determines if new hires are meeting goals, expectations and following proper process.
  • Works directly with Accessioning Supervisor on retraining current underperforming employees on process.
  • Follows up with new hires on any QAs or error made in their first 90 days of employment.
  • Works with the QA Supervisor to review QAs and retrain individual with both minor and major processing errors.
  • Reviews and update SOPs as needed.
  • Updates/implements training materials and reviews for process improvements for Accessioning department to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Responsible for determining if a new employee will be successful in their current position and if they can move out of the training program.
  • Reviews the specimen requisitions from training group daily against data entry of requisition information, for accuracy, documents errors noted and forwards documentation to supervisor, and corrects errors found.
  • Pulls and reviews weekly/monthly QA reports for the Quality Assurance department.
  • Receives and clocks in specimens from couriers timely; verifies that specimens recorded on courier logs are received.
  • Prioritizes and sorts specimens appropriately for accessioning and processing.
  • Performs data entry login of patient demographics, clinical information, specimen source, and test(s) orders from specimen requisitions into computer systems and accessions specimen containers as needed or required.
  • Checks test(s) ordered for medical necessity requirements and ABN if applicable. Documents any orders, which are lacking appropriate documentation to supervisor.
  • Documents all problem cases appropriately.
  • Scans requisitions and all related paperwork, into the scan system, and shreds documents as needed.
  • Answers departmental phone calls and assists clients as needed.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
  • Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
  • Has the ability to work the critical specimen log.
  • Monitors and evaluates specimen arrival times and TAT.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Additional education or in pursuit of obtaining an Associate's degree preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Over five years prior experience as an Accessioning Clerk required.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts.
  • Medical laboratory experience required.
