Context of Job:
 
The University of Delaware invites applications for an Academic Program Manager for tutoring. Academic Coaching & Tutoring (ACT) has historically served as an institutional focal point for supporting students as they pursue their academic goals and work to ensure their success at UD.

Under the limited direction of the Academic Coaching & Tutoring Director, the Academic Tutoring Program Manager is responsible for providing academic support for students referred to ACT and helping coordinate campus wide academic tutoring support programs. The Academic Tutoring Program Manager works collaboratively with other members of ACT and the broader university community to help set goals and propose solutions to academic support initiatives. The Academic Tutoring Program Manager helps in the development of programs and events for students, and supports related programs and University-wide initiatives, including but not limited to tutoring services. The Academic Tutoring Program Manager may be asked to teach courses and workshops, and work evening and weekend events.
 
 
Major Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director with the development and implementation of comprehensive tutoring programs to support the academic success of University of Delaware students with specific emphasis on those students determined to be at risk.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train and supervise all tutors including peer mentor tutors, individual tutors, drop-in tutors, evening coordinator (front desk), PASS leaders and misc wage student assistants.
  • Manage and facilitate payroll for tutors and part-time tutor related staff.
  • Communicate regularly with students, faculty, and staff about services provided by the ACT including the creation and dissemination of outreach material and department website.
  • Provide targeted strategic outreach and academic support to students, including presentations and workshops as needed.
  • Manage and respond to staff and student concerns.
  • Manage Penji software system to track tutoring use.
  • Assist Director to coordinate strategic adoption of Penji with other student support tutoring departments.
  • Collect and analyze data, develop reports and create standards to evaluate the effectiveness of ACT tutoring programs, tutor training and services.
  • Develop and implement training that supports all ACT tutoring services.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and relevant departments across campus to ensure tutoring is coordinated and optimized to offer the best blend of centralized and decentralized services.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other student support services as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and four years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in education, educational administration, counseling, career counseling, student development, social work or another related field preferred.
  • Experience providing services to individuals at risk, preferably in a postsecondary setting.
  • Training or experience in issues pertaining to college student development, counseling theories and practices, using diagnostic tests in counseling, career development and multicultural topics.
  • Knowledge of retention issues and strategies pertaining to project-eligible participants and of post-secondary institutional and community resources.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of academic policies and procedures.
  • Experience with UDSIS, Stellic preferred.
  • Proficient with Excel and Microsoft Office.
