POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic Dean serves as a member of the School Leadership Team and is responsible for managing the school's instructional program, academic planning, assessment systems, and accountability efforts. The Academic Dean supports the School Leadership Team in driving student achievement through effective implementation of curriculum, assessment, intervention, and educator development systems.
The Academic Dean works to strengthen teaching and learning, academic goal attainment, instructional monitoring, assessment administration, and accountability performance. This role works closely with Teacher Leaders, Instructional Facilitators, and school leadership to ensure all students receive high-quality instruction and academic support aligned to Louisiana accountability expectations.
The Academic Dean is evaluated using the Louisiana Leader Rubric and other system-approved performance measures related to student achievement, instructional effectiveness, and school accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
DOMAIN I: SCHOOL MISSION, VISION, & STRATEGIC GOAL SETTING
Goal Setting and Monitoring
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of school-wide academic goals aligned to school improvement priorities and accountability expectations.
- Manage the Cluster Long-Range Plan and monitor progress toward student achievement targets.
- Facilitate grade-level, content-area, and subgroup goal-setting processes.
- Monitor progress toward School Performance Score (SPS), assessment, and growth targets.
- Analyze student achievement data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring intervention.
- Develop and monitor academic action plans designed to improve student outcomes.
DOMAIN II: INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Curriculum and Assessment
- Monitor implementation of high-quality instructional materials and standards-aligned instruction.
- Review pacing, curriculum alignment, lesson quality, and instructional rigor.
- Coordinate benchmark, diagnostic, interim, and state assessment processes.
- Ensure assessment systems provide meaningful information to guide instructional decision-making.
- Oversee assessment reporting, analysis, and communication of results.
Teacher Effectiveness
- Conduct classroom observations, walkthroughs, and evaluations as assigned.
- Provide evidence-based feedback aligned to the Louisiana Educator Rubric.
- Support teacher growth through instructional coaching, feedback, and professional learning.
- Monitor educator Professional Growth Plans (PGPs), Student Learning Targets (SLTs), and growth plans.
- Support implementation of instructional best practices and effective teaching strategies.
Meeting Student Needs
- Oversee academic intervention and acceleration systems.
- Monitor implementation of intervention plans and student progress monitoring systems.
- Coordinate instructional supports for students requiring additional academic assistance.
- Utilize assessment and progress-monitoring data to identify students requiring targeted support.
- Collaborate with instructional staff to ensure interventions are aligned to student needs.
Instructional Focus
- Conduct regular instructional monitoring to ensure alignment with academic priorities.
- Utilize classroom observation, student work, and assessment data to drive instructional improvement.
- Support implementation of school-wide instructional initiatives and improvement efforts.
- Ensure instructional resources, supports, and professional learning align to academic goals.
DOMAIN III: CAPACITY BUILDING
Reflective Practices
- Utilize student achievement, observation, and implementation data to evaluate instructional effectiveness.
- Engage in continuous professional growth and instructional leadership development.
- Support reflective practices among teachers and instructional leaders.
Leadership Development
- Support the development of Teacher Leaders, Instructional Facilitators, Virtual Learning Facilitators, and aspiring instructional leaders.
- Coordinate leadership development opportunities focused on instructional excellence.
- Monitor instructional leadership responsibilities and role-specific deliverables.
Collaborative Practices
- Facilitate instructional leadership meetings, teacher collaboration structures, and data analysis processes.
- Promote collaborative problem-solving focused on improving student achievement.
- Support cross-grade and cross-content collaboration to improve instructional coherence.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor implementation and effectiveness of instructional initiatives.
- Support ongoing review and refinement of instructional systems and academic programs.
- Utilize performance data to continuously improve teaching and learning outcomes.
DOMAIN IV: SCHOOL & COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT
Community Engagement
- Communicate academic expectations, achievement goals, and assessment results to stakeholders as appropriate.
- Support family understanding of student academic progress and intervention supports.
- Collaborate with school leaders to promote a culture focused on academic success.
Access to High-Quality Education
- Ensure all students have access to rigorous, standards-aligned instruction and effective academic supports.
- Monitor academic outcomes across student groups to identify and address achievement gaps.
- Support equitable implementation of instructional programs and intervention systems.

Academic Operations
- Manage school-wide academic data systems and reporting structures.
- Maintain SPS projections, accountability trackers, and student performance monitoring tools.
- Monitor subgroup, grade-level, and content-area performance indicators.
- Coordinate assessment logistics, administration procedures, and reporting timelines.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of academic data and accountability reporting.
- Support school leadership in preparation for accountability reviews, audits, and reporting requirements.
Assessment & Accountability Management
- Lead analysis of accountability measures and student performance outcomes.
- Develop reports and presentations that inform instructional and leadership decision-making.
- Coordinate school-wide assessment calendars and testing readiness activities.
- Support state assessment administration and accountability compliance.
- Monitor implementation of academic improvement plans tied to accountability outcomes.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
