This position provides academic advising for students in the Ogden Honors College and coordinates events and programmatic support for their continued retention in the College. The Academic Counselor 2 assists the Director for Advising and Enrollment Management in activities related to academic counseling and collaborates with other campus constituents to resolve student issues and concerns.
Job Responsibilities
Provides individual academic counseling concerning admissions, course requirements, graduation requirements, scholastic requirements, and academic issues; Advises on the undergraduate curriculum appropriate to an Honors collegiate education. Provides general career counseling for individual students, which includes discussion of students' values, philosophy, and life goals and career information and testing. Provides routine interpretation of various placement, occupational, vocational, and interest tests. (50%)
Develops and delivers workshops, information sessions, and other events according to advising goals in coordination with student services personnel and student support organizations. Plans and participates in registration, pre-registration, and other special programs including orientation for students. Coordinates special events such as orientation and the certification of degree candidates for the college. Produces digital and print resources for the academic and developmental support of Ogden Honors College students. (30%)
Represents the college/department at university functions at high schools, community events, college/university committees, joint programs, and professional meetings and activities. (10%)
Utilizes and maintains identification and tracking resources to support student development. Maintains individual student advising records. (5%)
Assists with recruiting efforts. Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Additional Requirements
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related matter, they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.

This position may have to work nights and/or weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
Specific Experience: A Master’s Degree, preferably within Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences disciplines, and two years of full-time experience in a collegiate student support position are preferred.
