The Academic Advisor I in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will guide students in academic planning, degree requirements, course selection, major and career exploration, and progress toward graduation. The advisor will support student success by helping students develop educational plans, identify and overcome barriers to success, connect with appropriate campus resources, and make informed academic and career decisions. The advisor will also contribute to student engagement by supporting orientation, recruitment, outreach, workshops, and student events, while collaborating with faculty, staff, and university offices on student-related initiatives that promote retention, persistence, timely graduation, and career readiness.

Support Undergraduate Programs (60%)

•Work collaboratively with the Undergraduate Program Director to advise Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate students, both individually and in group settings on degree requirements, course selection, academic policies and procedures, and available university resources.

•Assist students in developing academic plans that support timely progression toward timely degree completion, while helping them identify educational, professional, and career goals within the engineering field.

•Provide specialized advising and support for first year, transfer, and other designated student populations within the Electrical and Computer engineering programs, helping them successfully navigate academic requirements.

•Identify students experiencing academic challenges and connect them with appropriate campus resources and support services.

•Maintain accurate advising records and safeguard confidential student information in accordance with university policies and FERPA requirements.

•Utilize university information systems and advising technologies to support student advising and program administration.

Departmental Support (20%)

•Collaborate with faculty, staff, and university offices to support undergraduate program operations and student success initiatives.

•Organize and coordinate student-focused events, including orientation, recruitment, information sessions, workshops, recognition events, and other departmental activities.

•Prepare correspondence, promotional materials, and student communications related to advising, recruitment, and departmental initiatives.

•Collect, maintain, and analyze student data to support accreditation, assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.

•Serve on department, college, and university committees as assigned.

Special Projects and Outreach (15%)

•Support outreach, recruitment, marketing, website, and social media activities that promote the undergraduate programs.

•Assist with preparation of annual reports, newsletters, program publications, and other communications.

•Participate in special projects that advance the department's strategic priorities and undergraduate mission.

Perform other duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in any academic field with a minimum of one year of experience at an academic institution or in a professional career field. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

• (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
• (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or

• Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
• Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
