About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Senior Heritage Officer to join Heritage NSW! As the Aboriginal Senior Heritage Officer, you will join a small and supportive team to help deliver heritage initiatives, programs, and services for Aboriginal and environmental heritage matters.
To excel in this role, a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural heritage is essential, gained through tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in the field. Joining a small and supportive team, you will contribute to the ongoing preservation and celebration of Aboriginal cultural heritage, making a meaningful impact on both local communities and the broader heritage landscape. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage with stakeholders, drive positive outcomes, and leave a lasting legacy in the realm of cultural heritage conservation.
About You
As the Aboriginal Senior Heritage Officer, you’ll provide sound advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage matters and use your knowledge and experience to provide informed advice to a range of stakeholders including schools, the local communities, government agencies, interest groups. As these stakeholders are in various locations, you’ll be willing to undertake travel and hold a current driver’s licence.
In this role, demonstrating sensitivity towards Aboriginal cultural heritage matters is crucial for fostering positive outcomes for Aboriginal communities in NSW. Recognising and respecting the cultural protocols, particularly acknowledging that Aboriginal people are the original custodians of the land, is essential. This acknowledgment of Aboriginal people’s knowledge ensures their cultural practices are integrated into program outcomes.
By understanding and embracing these cultural protocols and practices, you can facilitate better relationships between Aboriginal communities and the wider community. Your ability to navigate complex issues with sensitivity and respect will contribute to creating an inclusive environment where Aboriginal heritage is recognised, respected, and celebrated. This, in turn, paves the way for meaningful collaboration and positive outcomes for all involved parties.
