About the role

Aboriginal Liaison Officers play an extremely important role to assist customers using the public transport network. Their presence on board train services and at various train stations around the network, provides an opportunity for them to engage with and support our customers. With a primary focus on supporting and assisting First Nations people utilizing the Transperth rail network, our team of ALOs will also provide support to other operational staff across the network, including Transit Officers, Revenue Protection Officers and Customer Service staff. They may be called upon to attend incidents involving first nations people where their presence and support can help to calm and de-escalate tensions or to provide help and support to those who may be experiencing hardships such as homelessness, domestic violence, medical concerns, etc. Our team frequently engage with external agencies and organisations to share valuable information and find assistance for those who are vulnerable and at risk.

Reporting directly to the Revenue Protection Supervisor, our ALO officers duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing customer service to passengers and visitors around the rail network.

  • Engaging with first nations people and providing a point of contact for those who may be reluctant to seek out help

  • Patrolling train stations and travelling on train services.

  • Assisting Transit Officers with persons in custody if requested.

  • Responding to calls for assistance from staff.

  • Providing assistance where required to people who are vulnerable and at risk.
