Salary: Up to $45,128 per annum (Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions)

Work type: Temporary, Full-time

Program Duration: 12 months

Commencing: February 2027

Brisbane City Council's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traineeship Pathway program is an opportunity to gain experience in a professional business environment while working towards a nationally recognised qualification (Certificate III in Business).

As a Business Trainee, you'll gain hands-on experience while supporting a range of business functions across Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop practical workplace skills, build professional networks and gain valuable experience within one of Australia's largest local governments.

About the team – Recruitment and Talent Acquisition (RTA)

Business Trainees may be placed within a range of Council teams, including:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team
  • Recruitment and Talent Acquisition
  • Business Engagement and Performance

Each placement offers exposure to different aspects of Council operations and provides an opportunity to develop valuable workplace skills while contributing to meaningful work.

As a trainee, your duties may include:

  • Providing administrative support to a team.
  • Assisting with document preparation and record management.
  • Maintaining databases and business systems.
  • Coordinating meetings, bookings and team activities.
  • Supporting projects and operational initiatives.
  • Assisting with customer and stakeholder enquiries.
  • Preparing reports, correspondence and meeting materials.
  • Working collaboratively with a range of teams across Council.

What we’re looking for:

  • Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Keen to gain experience in a professional business setting.
  • Reliable and organised, with good communication skills.
  • Committed to completing your training modules throughout the year.
  • Able to travel across Brisbane (some locations may not be serviced by public transport).

After completing the traineeship, you’ll have:

  • A nationally recognised qualification (Cert III in Business).
  • Practical experience to boost your career.
  • The skills to apply for roles within Council or beyond.
