
Jarrah House is a small healthcare facility (alcohol and other drug rehabilitation) with mums and children living on-site. We are looking for an Aboriginal woman to be part of the team to ensure culturally safe treatment for women being supported to deal with their Alcohol and Other Drug use.
This role involves a variety of activities including:
You’ll be a consistent, trusted presence for women as they work toward their therapeutic goals, providing clients with the practical and cultural foundations to make that journey possible.

What We Do
Jarrah House is the residential rehabilitation location for the Women's Alcohol and Drug Advisory Centre Incorporated (WADAC), a Non-Government Organisation providing services in withdrawal management, rehabilitation and individual and group counselling, and services to improve the wellbeing and health outcomes of families and carers, and the people they support.
The voluntary admission Residential Rehabilitation Centre in South-East Sydney, Jarrah House, is a place of care and compassion for women experiencing drug and alcohol dependence. A ‘women’s only service’, it is one of a small group of restricted-entry services and the only one in NSW providing in-house residential withdrawal management and Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) participation with dependent children also in residence.

The role reports to the Nurse Manager and can be part-time or full-time, including night and weekend work.

Jarrah House has exemptions to recruit women only in positions that have regular contact with clients and to recruit Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women in designated positions.

Jarrah House -a unique place for women and woman with their children (under 8), to overcome substance misuse and work towards a healthy future.
The Jarrah House Program consists of medically supervised withdrawal management (detoxification) followed by a short term 10 week DBT rehabilitation program. The rehabilitation program is designed to address substance misuse and the effects of trauma simultaneously. The evidence based program also teaches women how to respect who they are and how to keep safe.
Jarrah House provides discharge planning and a aftercare service. On leaving the centre, women participate in a discharge program to assist them to implement the changes begun during their stay. They are invited to return to Jarrah House for aftercare meetings with an alumnus group for continuing support of other ex-Jarrah House clients.
Holistic Care
Jarrah House recognises that drug and alcohol dependence is not only a physical problem, but affects women's emotional and spiritual well-being. Programs are aimed at empowering women to make choices that are right for themselves, by providing ongoing support and the opportunity to develop a range of personal skills. The centre's high quality, holistic approach to health care has been recognised by the United Nations as setting a benchmark for the gender response treatment of substance abuse by women and their children.
Caring for mothers and children
Jarrah House child care and parenting services are unique to cater for the complex needs of both the mother and her children. They are supported through a structured and child-centred learning environment. Jarrah House promotes the development of the whole child, including social, spiritual, physical and cognitive development. Child care support and age-specific activities are provided seven days a week by early childhood child care workers. School aged children attend school on a temporary basis.
