AAT Lecturer
Application Deadline: 3 July 2026
Department: Business
Employment Type: Part Time
Location: Wigan & Leigh College
Compensation: £31,699 - £42,540 / year
Part Time, 15 Hours per week
You know how accounting works in practice. Now help learners build the confidence to use it.
Accounting can open doors.
For some learners, AAT is the first step into a finance career. For others, it is a way to progress at work, move into a new role or build the confidence to study at a higher level.
As our AAT Lecturer, you’ll help learners understand the knowledge, skills and behaviours behind successful accounting practice. You’ll teach topics such as bookkeeping, accounting principles, financial accounting and management accounting, using clear explanation and practical examples that help learners see how the subject works in real organisations.
This role is about more than preparing students for exams. You’ll help learners become accurate, organised and professionally confident. You’ll support them to manage deadlines, interpret information, solve problems and understand what employers expect from people working in finance.
You may already be an experienced teacher. You may be an accounting or finance professional who has trained, coached or mentored others at work. You do not need to arrive as a finished lecturer. If you bring strong accounting knowledge and the ability to explain things clearly, we can support you to develop your teaching practice and gain the qualification you need.
What you'll do
- Teach across AAT qualifications, helping learners build strong accounting and finance knowledge.
- Deliver classroom-based and online learning using clear, engaging and practical approaches.
- Teach topics including bookkeeping, accounting principles, management accounting and financial accounting.
- Prepare learners for AAT assessments and examinations.
- Assess work, provide constructive feedback and help learners understand how to improve.
- Monitor attendance, engagement and progress and act early where learners need support.
- Develop learning materials, schemes of work and lesson plans in line with awarding-body requirements.
- Support learners’ employability, confidence and progression into higher-level study, apprenticeships or employment.
- Maintain accurate records using college systems.
- Work with colleagues, employers and external stakeholders to strengthen curriculum delivery and learner outcomes.
What you'll bring
- AAT Level 4, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- A relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related subject.
- Experience working in the accounting or finance sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, management accounting and financial accounting.
- Experience teaching, training, mentoring or supporting others to learn.
- Experience assessing work and supporting achievement.
- The ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
- Level 2 English and maths.
- Current industry knowledge and awareness of developments in accounting and finance.
What you're like
- Clear. You explain accounting concepts in a way that learners can understand and apply.
- Precise. You care about accuracy, detail and getting the fundamentals right.
- Supportive. You help learners build confidence, especially when the subject feels challenging.
- Practical. You connect learning to real finance work and professional expectations.
- Organised. You manage planning, assessment, feedback and records effectively.
- Encouraging. You motivate learners to keep improving and take their next step.
- Professional. You model the standards expected in accounting and finance.
- Adaptable. You use different approaches to support learners with different starting points.
Essentials
- You’ll need an enhanced DBS check. If you get the job, we’ll do this for you.
- You’re committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- You can work across our sites and deliver online where required.
- You’re flexible and happy to work beyond standard hours when assessments, events or college activity require it.
- You’re willing to achieve a recognised teaching qualification if you do not already hold one.
Why work with us
A good accounting teacher can change how a learner sees themselves.
Someone who thought they were “not a numbers person” starts to understand the logic behind bookkeeping. A learner who lacked confidence begins to trust their calculations. An apprentice connects classroom learning with the finance tasks they complete at work. A student sees a route into a career they had not thought was possible.
At Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll help create those moments.
You’ll work with learners who are developing practical, professional skills that employers value. You’ll help them prepare for AAT assessments, but also for the expectations of real finance roles: accuracy, deadlines, judgement, communication and attention to detail.
You’ll be part of a college that values technical and professional education. We’ll support you to develop as a teacher, keep your industry knowledge current and help learners move confidently into their next step.
This is a role for someone who understands that accounting is not just about numbers. It is about helping people make sense of information, make good decisions and build futures with strong professional skills.
