WHAT WE'RE DOING

Our team at Lockheed Martin, is dedicated to engineering, developing, and integrating new capabilities for the Missile Defense System that protects the United States and its allies. While we are part of a large organization, we operate within smaller, agile teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Our responsibilities include Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development, Automated Testing, Cyber Security, and enhancing critical missile defense technologies.

THE WORK

MDS – M&S Vistas Framework AI Engineer will design, develop, and integrate advanced machine‑learning and deep‑learning solutions into Lockheed Martin’s next‑generation aerospace and defense platforms. This role requires strong algorithmic expertise, hands‑on experience with large‑scale data pipelines, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑impact AI capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design, prototype, and optimize AI/ML models for mission‑critical applications.
2. Embed AI models into embedded systems, cloud services, or edge devices; work with software, hardware, and systems engineers to validate performance.
3. Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines for AI (CI/CD, automated testing, containerization). Defined the cloud migration architecture framework, including service decomposition, orchestration strategy, container standards, and CI/CD workflows for classified environments.
4. Conduct rigorous testing, benchmarking, and validation against operational requirements; implement continuous‑learning and monitoring mechanisms.
5. Stay current with emerging AI research, evaluate new technologies, and propose proof‑of‑concept projects.
6. Mentor junior engineers, lead code reviews, and contribute to best‑practice documentation and standards.
7. Partner with program managers, analysts, and external partners (academia, research labs) to align AI solutions with business objectives.
8. Ability to work in cross‑functional, fast‑paced environments and manage multiple priority projects. Demonstrated problem‑solving mindset and innovative thinking.

Basic Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field (Master’s preferred). Master’s Degree in COMPUTER SCIENCE with MACHINE LEARNING concentration.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on AI/ML development

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, and/or Java.
• Deep‑learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX).
• Experience with GPU/TPU acceleration and model optimization (TensorRT, OpenVINO).
• Knowledge of data storage/processing tools (SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Hadoop).

Desired Skills

Domain Knowledge: Understanding of aerospace/defense systems, real‑time constraints, and secure data handling.

Clearance: Active Secret clearance upon start

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication; ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $120600.00 - $224000.00

• Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
• For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
