Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Welding faculty member supports the mission of Reynolds Community College and the School of STEM & Industrial Trades by providing high-quality, hands-on instruction that prepares students with the technical skills, safety practices, and professional competencies needed for employment and advancement in the welding industry. The position supports student success by creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment that connects classroom instruction with practical application and current industry expectations.

The Welding faculty member provides classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction across the Welding curriculum based on program needs and the faculty member’s qualifications. The position plays a key role in developing students’ technical skills, safe work practices, problem-solving abilities, and readiness for employment. Responsibilities include instruction, student advising and support, curriculum and program development, assessment, maintaining a safe learning environment, and collaboration with faculty and college partners to support program quality and student success.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Five (5) years of current occupational experience in welding or a closely related field.

· Demonstrated knowledge and experience with welding processes, equipment, techniques, and industry safety practices.

· Demonstrated potential to effectively teach and support student learning.

Preferred Qualifications

· Associate degree or equivalent in Welding Technology or a related field.

· Experience performing multiple welding processes, such as SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW.

· Experience interpreting welding symbols, blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

· Experience applying industry safety standards and safe shop practices.

· Experience training, mentoring, supervising, or supporting the skill development of others in an industrial, workforce, apprenticeship, military, educational, or related setting.

· Experience inspecting or evaluating weld quality and workmanship.

· Current or recent industry-recognized welding certifications or credentials.

Additional Considerations

Experience working collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.

Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel

May be needed between campuses and for college events.
