Job Description

The Position

Genentech, Inc. seeks a Scientist 3 at its South San Francisco, California location.

Duties: Initiate, direct, and execute pre-clinical scientific research and development strategies for oncology drug discovery. Identify, validate, and mechanistically characterize novel oncology targets. Investigate the feasibility of new scientific principles by leveraging a broad range of innovative technologies, including in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo model systems, as well as functional approaches like mass-spectrometry and CRISPR. Perform various biochemical, molecular biology, and cell-based assays, such as western blotting, cell-line engineering, and proliferation assays with organoids. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of scientific literature, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and present work at conferences. Advise management on corporate research and development, contribute to patent applications, and collaborate with diverse teams across the organization.

Education and Experience Requirement: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biophysics or a closely related field and 2 years of industry experience in the job offered or a closely related position.

Specials Skills Requirement: Employer requires 2 years of experience with each of the following: •Cell-line engineering: lentiviral & CRISPR-based approaches including cloning strategies; •Molecular biology techniques: construct design & engineering; •Functional genomics: CRISPR & ORF overexpression; •Cell proliferation assays: conventional & advanced model systems including organoids; •Cell biological assays: immunofluorescence & high content imaging; •Biochemical techniques: western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, and biochemical reconstitution.

Worksite: 1 DNA Way, South San Francisco California, 94080. The expected annual salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of South San Francisco, California is $147,864 to $192,000 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
