Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the production, submittal, and publication of Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) estimates to fulfill deliverables of a federal/state contract with the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This position is also responsible for the analysis and dissemination of employment and hours and earnings data for the State of Florida and sub-state areas under a BLS grant for the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program on a monthly basis. This position will also designate Targeted Employment Areas for the State and assist in economic research such as economic impact analysis; generating estimates for other surveys; and writing research reports.

Produces monthly and annual LAUS estimates to fulfill deliverables of a federal contract with BLS. Coordinates the collection of monthly and annual statistical data needed to produce LAUS estimates from various entities at the state and federal levels. Reviews Program for Measuring Insured Unemployed Statistics (PROMIS) extracts and outputs on a weekly basis.

Analyze employment and hours and earnings data for the State of Florida and 25 sub-state areas under a BLS grant for the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program on a monthly basis. This includes analyzing economic data to determine accurate month-to-month changes in the economy. On an annual basis, replace the CES sample-based time series with actual data from Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program detailed area by industry information. Reviews QCEW individual firm data to determine the accuracy of the data for CES benchmark purposes. Works with QCEW associates to resolve differences in reported data. Determines the correct application of area and industry changes needed to ensure a consistent industry time series.

Assist in ad hoc economic research including, but not limited to, conducting economic impact analysis; generating estimates for job vacancy/hiring needs surveys; accessing and analyzing U.S. Census Bureau data; producing long-term employment projections; and writing research reports on industries, occupations, and demographics.

Reviews microdata and submits data discrepancies via Current Employment Statistics program’s on-track system. Sends industry, employment, and wage questions to BLS analysts via the on-track system. Also, it collects data from State Universities and inputs data into the BLS Automated Current Employment Statistics (ACES) system.

Assists supervisor with day-to-day operational duties. This may include running jobs and coordinating all workflow processes to ensure the U.S. BLS deliverables are met.

Responds to requests for labor market information from customers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical, statistical, and economic concepts.

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.

Minimum:

  • May be required to travel and work overtime.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Economics, Statistics, Math, related Social Science; or four years' experience in research and analysis.
  • Experience using spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience using Statistical Software Packages such as SAS, or R.

Pay:

$45,000-$48,900 Annually
