As an R&D Senior Engineer, you will leverage your technical expertise to validate and customize OEM single-phase and three-phase low-voltage Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), ensuring they meet the requirements of mission-critical power protection applications and market specifications.

Reporting to R&D Hardware Chapter Lead, based in Quartino Switzerland, you will contribute significantly to initiatives related to ABB’s Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) products

Location: Quartino Switzerland

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Lead technical validation and customization of OEM 1ph and 3ph low voltage Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), as well as batteries and accessories.
  • Manage test partners (UL, Intertek, Dekra, Eurofins, etc.) to scope and plan test programs to demonstrate compliance with applicable IEC or UL standards.
  • Manage the technical specifications of assigned products and support the Product Manager in developing the business case for product development.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions related to issues found during qualification testing, as well as issues identified at customer sites.
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technologies and collaborate with the research center in Switzerland and other ABB stakeholders to identify potential new UPS technologies.

Qualifications for the Role:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, along with more than five years of professional experience in electrical engineering.
  • Must have experience working with power electronic systems
  • Experience in the use of various measuring equipment in a laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of product regulations and standards, including IEC and UL.
  • Experience working with external laboratories and certification bodies.
  • Knowledge of ECNs (Engineering Change Notifications), BOMs (Bills of Materials), and documentation systems.
  • Experience with failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Knowledge of and experience with Agile methodology is an advantage.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
