Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicate closely with DCSD Director of Athletics, building administration, High School AD's/coaches to ensure the program aligns with the beliefs and skill development of individual sports.
  • Basic athletic knowledge of sports offered of basketball, soccer, track and field, and baseball/softball.
  • Passion for student-athletes to build skill and understanding for sports.
  • Organize content experts to assist with teaching of skill and provide feedback to all student-athletes
  • Organize competitions to showcase skills present in the programming.
  • Attend meetings with the DCSD Director of Athletics to discuss concerns and improvements in development of the program.
  • Attend one City Track Meet to have participants voluntarily run in 3 events.
  • Basic knowledge of fitness, nutrition and health for athletic participation.
  • Develop a plan for school to teach skills and have competitions for each sport. The calendar mirrors sport seasons for 2026-27.

The sport calendar will be as follows for 2026-27.

  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Track and Field
  • Baseball/Softball
  • Fitness Sport Specific Training

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to -

  • Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

Special Qualification Desired:

  • Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement
  • Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.

  • Successful Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
