Mon - Fri 7:00am-3:30pm

Reporting to the Supervisor of Sterile Processing, the Support Technician Sterile Processing, is responsible for performing tasks that support the efficient reprocessing of surgical instruments.
Key Responsibilities include:
In decontamination, receives contaminated instruments and scans all trays/carts into SPM. Places all contaminated items in correct location, prepares for pre-cleaning process. Places empty instrument containers on cart washer racks, removing all labels and tags. Loads and operates cart/utensil washer, selecting correct cycles. Empties trash and soiled linen. Stocks area with needed cleaning brushes, detergents, and linen. Retrieves washer racks from conveyer and stores accordingly. In prep/pack, receives clean trays from washer line, sorts and categorizes accordingly. Empties cart/utensil washer, placing items in their size specific storage location. Stocks workstations and prep areas with necessary supplies. In sterile supply area, assists with transporting case carts to operating rooms, returns un-used surgical supplies to correct location. Operates carousel storage system. Performs other duties as assigned.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


Decontamination
* Assists with breakdown of surgical case carts.
* Loads instrument containers onto appropriate racks.
* Operates cart washer.
* Stocks supplies required for decontamination of surgical instruments.
* Empties soiled linen into correct receptacle.
Prep/Pack Assembly
* Empties cart washer and instrument washer.
* Places instrument containers on designated racks
* Stocks workstations with supplies required for setting of instrument sets.
* Place sterilized instruments in correct sterilization location.
Case Cart/Sterile Supply
* Assists with return of unused sterile supplies.
* Transport case carts to surgical suite.
* Returns unused instrument sets to correct storage location.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.


Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Other-Preferred


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):


All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):


Required Minimum Experience:


Prior experience in sanitation, environmental hygiene, or biohazardous material handling Required and
Previous experience in a healthcare support environment Preferred


Required Minimum Skills:


Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team
Ability to follow instructions, both verbally and written required
Experience with various personal computer software preferred
