5th Grade Teaching Position

Location: Atherton Elementary School

Reports To: Building Principal

Start Date: 2026-2027 School Year

The fifth grade teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom that supports students' academic, social, emotional, and physical growth. The teacher plans and delivers instruction aligned with the Michigan Academic Standards, monitors student progress, collaborates with families and colleagues, and prepares students for a successful transition to middle school. This version is condensed while remaining consistent with the original Kindergarten posting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with the Michigan K�12 Standards and district curriculum.
  • Create and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student learning and engagement.
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Implement effective classroom management and positive behavior supports.
  • Utilize district-adopted instructional resources, including HMH Into Reading and Bridges in Mathematics.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, interventionists, administrators, and families to support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in IEP, Section 504, and MTSS processes as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attend required meetings and professional development, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate elementary endorsement(s).
  • Highly qualified to teach at the elementary level in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Experience with MTSS, PBIS, and differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of structured literacy aligned with the Science of Reading and HMH Into Reading preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bridges in Mathematics preferred.
  • Strong instructional, classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community.
  • Successful completion of all required criminal history and background checks.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

SALARY: Per Atherton Education Association contract
