Job Description
HELIOS (Europe) Technologies GmbH is an independent EU Owned and Operated Company affiliated with ADAPTIT S.A.. HELIOS Europe HQ is located in Dusseldorf Germany with RF and IT support activities in Athens Greece.
This is a full-time position, located in Athens Greece. The Baseband Unit (BBU) Support Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HELIOS 5G BBU and gNodeB hardware and software, working along with our 5G RAN Support Team. You will ensure high performance and reliability for our Private 5G equipment during commissioning and after sales maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Commissioning and Integration: Perform commissioning of 5G BBU/gNodeB, including loading data configuration files, managing site alarms, and verifying functionality.
- Troubleshooting: Identify, analyze, and resolve 5G network performance, connectivity, and hardware issues (Level 1/2 support).
- Maintenance: Conduct on-site and remote health checks, upgrades, and maintenance of 5G infrastructure.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including site-specific configuration reports and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Requirements
- A technical degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Approx. 3-5 years’ applied experience in a similar role is a primary requirement.
- Hands-on experience with 5G RAN (BBU/gNodeB) configuration and troubleshooting.
- Good knowledge of 3GPP protocols (L1–L3: PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC, NAS) and IP networking (TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6).
- Familiarity with 5G SA architecture, core interfaces, and C-RAN / vRAN concepts.
- Experience with Linux/UNIX (CLI) and log analysis using tools such as Wireshark, TEMS, or Nemo (at least one).
- Basic understanding of fiber/RF cabling and telecom site environments.
- Basic scripting skills (Python or Bash) are a plus.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in operational environments.
- Effective communication in cross-functional and international teams.
- Flexibility for on-call support, maintenance windows, and occasional EU travel.
