POSITION: .50 Special Education Teacher Consultant and .50 Resource Program
LOCATION: Starkweather Academy
Plymouth-Canton is seeking to employ culturally responsive teachers who will be able to support and sustain equity-focused instruction for all learners. They identify and systematically apply differentiated instruction and assessment that improves achievement for all learners from all racial groups.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least one special education endorsement.
2. Master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
3. Three years of successful teaching experience with not less than two years teaching students with a disability in a special education classroom.
4. Possess or immediately qualify for Teacher Consultant approval from the Michigan Department of Education.
5. Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, behavior management principles.
7. Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, curriculum adaptations.
8. Demonstrated record of collaborative teamwork.
9. Demonstrated skills in parent consultation.
10. Proficient skills in written communication.
11. Extensive experience in the IEP process
12. Experience in mediation and collaborative problem solving.
13. Experience with and knowledge of UDL framework and assistive technology.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides consultation support to district staff.
2. Supports the evaluation process, intake process, and complete other necessary record keeping.
3. Consults with special and general education personnel.
4. Builds capacity of special education staff to provide instructional services to students who are enrolled in special education programs using research based tools and strategies.
5. Works with members of a multi-disciplinary evaluation team to assist in the evaluation students suspected of having a disability/requiring an IEP or in the re-evaluation process.
6. Facilitates/organizes educational needs for students with complex needs in general education environment.
7. Provides professional development for staff as needed.
8. Supports building teams as they evaluate, complete special education documentation, build behavior plans and implement specific educational plans.
9. Meets with building teams and parents to address issues, problem solve, and build/modify support plans.
10. Consults and communicates with special education supervisors, ancillary staff, and resource program teachers.
11. Supports students in county center based programs as needed (attend IEPs/parent meetings).
12. Performs other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisors.
13. Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.

Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools operates 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools & an alternative high school program. District maps show geographic attendance areas for elementary & middle school. Students are randomly assigned to our three high schools.
To additionally support our community, the district provides extensive preschool programming as well as before & after-school child care & summer care programs for elementary & middle school students. Over 3,000 full-time & part-time employees work to provide our students with the educational opportunities they need to become productive citizens in a global community.
Parent involvement is a key factor in the success of our students & our schools. District policy 2112 summarizes the importance of two-way communication between home & school & describes the responsibilities of the school & the parents in this process. The district plan titled “Parent Involvement in the School Program” will be printed each year in August.
Each school welcomes parents to Open House in the fall, parent-teacher conferences, evening programs related to curriculum & school activities. Parents also participate on many school committees, volunteer in classrooms, organize fundraisers & help us to provide their students with an outstanding education.
All P-CCS teachers are teaching in areas in which they are certified by the State of Michigan. The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law requires an even higher level of certification. At the secondary level, these new standards require teachers to possess at least a bachelor’s degree & full state certification & teach only in areas in which they have a major or equivalent graduate degree or a minor & have passed the state exam in that subject.
All P-CCS elementary teachers meet the federal requirements for highly qualified teachers. Parents have a right to know the qualifications of the teachers of their children & may contact their school to get this information.
