We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Punch Press Operator with experience on Amada CNC punch press equipment to join our manufacturing team. This is a 2nd shift position, working four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday) from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM, providing a consistent schedule with a three-day weekend.
This position includes a $1.50/hour shift differential for all hours worked on 2nd shift.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating punch press machines to produce high-quality sheet metal parts according to engineering specifications and production schedules. This role requires a strong understanding of machine operation, tooling setup, and blueprint reading, along with a commitment to safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
The Punch Press Operator will play a key role in maintaining production flow, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the shop.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up, operate, and maintain Amada CNC punch press machines to fabricate sheet metal components according to specifications
  • Load and unload raw materials (sheet metal) onto the punch press equipment safely and efficiently
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and technical drawings to determine machine setup and production requirements
  • Select, install, and align tooling (dies, punches) based on job specifications
  • Program or input CNC data as required, including offsets, tool paths, and nesting layouts (if applicable)
  • Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Monitor machine operation to ensure quality, accuracy, and productivity standards are met
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and make minor adjustments to maintain production flow
  • Maintain proper documentation, including production records, inspection reports, and downtime logs
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment per preventive maintenance schedules
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other operators to improve efficiency and workflow
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
  • 2+ years of experience operating CNC punch press machines preferred  
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and tooling setup
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
  • Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Basic computer skills for machine interface and data entry
  • Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in a manufacturing setting
