Job Description

Summary

The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor is a key manufacturing role responsible for overseeing limited, low-volume production runs on 2nd shift within an aerospace machining environment. This role directly supervises shift personnel, performs first article inspections, assists with machine set-ups, and runs production equipment as needed. The Supervisor is expected to work through open-ended tasks and problems independently, keeping the shift productive and on schedule while maintaining aerospace quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Supervise, coach, and coordinate 2nd shift production personnel to safely meet daily production and quality goals.

· Oversee limited, low-volume production runs, prioritizing jobs and coverage across machines and operators.

· Complete first article inspections to verify parts conform to prints and specifications before full production release.

· Assist operators with machine set-ups and changeovers to minimize downtime between jobs.

· Operate CNC machines directly as needed to cover open positions, support training, or keep production on schedule.

· Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve open-ended production problems, driving issues to root cause and implementing corrective action.

· Make sound, independent decisions on the floor when engineering, quality, or leadership support is not immediately available.

· Monitor quality throughout the shift and ensure nonconforming material is identified, segregated, and documented.

· Communicate shift status, open issues, and hand-off information clearly to the incoming shift and Plant Manager.

· Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and aerospace quality requirements (e.g., AS9100).

· Track attendance, overtime, and shift staffing, escalating gaps that could affect production commitments.

· Support continuous improvement efforts, including 5S, waste reduction, and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience in a CNC machining or aerospace manufacturing environment, including prior lead or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with first article inspection and low-volume/limited production runs is preferred.

Required Knowledge / Skills

  • Working knowledge of CNC machine operation, setup, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience performing first article inspections and using precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems and requirements (e.g., AS9100) preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through open-ended or unfamiliar issues independently.
  • Ability to lead, train, and hold a shift team accountable with minimal direct oversight.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including clear shift-to-shift hand-offs.
