Job Description

Overview

Metalcraft of Mayville is seeking a Brake Press Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for the setup and operation of Cincinnati and Amada hydraulic CNC press brakes in a fast-paced, just-in-time fabrication environment.

Reporting to the Brake Press Manager, the Brake Press Operator will set up equipment, select appropriate tooling, form metal components to specifications, and inspect completed parts to ensure quality requirements are met.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Cincinnati and Amada hydraulic CNC press brakes.
  • Read work orders, blueprints, and production schedules to determine job specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Select, install, align, and properly set up punches, dies, and other required tooling.
  • Position and secure workpieces using appropriate fixtures, stops, and measuring devices.
  • Adjust machine settings, including ram strokes, speeds, angles, and other parameters based on job requirements.
  • Perform forming operations according to established production and quality standards.
  • Inspect and measure completed parts to verify accuracy and conformance to specifications.
  • Use gauges, hand tools, and precision measuring equipment to ensure part quality.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic production, material, or quality issues and seek assistance when needed.
  • Safely operate forklifts, hoists, and overhead cranes to move materials and completed work.
  • Remove burrs or sharp edges from finished parts as needed.
  • Record production time and completed work using the company’s computer-based data collection system.
  • Maintain equipment performance logs and report maintenance concerns or deficiencies.
  • Perform operator-level preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Assist other operators or production areas as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all corporate and plant safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in metal forming, press operation, or basic fabrication.
  • Previous CNC brake press experience preferred.
  • Experience with Cincinnati and/or Amada press brakes is a plus.
  • Basic ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and production specifications.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math.
  • Experience with basic dimensional measuring and ability to learn precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to select and work with appropriate tooling for metal-forming applications.
  • Forklift experience or ability to safely operate a forklift.
  • Previous overhead crane experience is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic manufacturing issues and adapt to changing production needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
