Job Description

On behalf of one of our luxury expedition clients, we are now recruiting for the following position.
 
The Navigation Officer is responsible to the Master for the safe navigation of the vessel and all navigation/routing requirements. This positions primary responsibility is to assist the Master in developing passage plans, as well as maintaining up-to-date information in Port manuals.
 
Qualifications:
ꞏ Chief Officer’s License
ꞏ Training in accordance with STCW
ꞏ Previous experience as a Watch Officer
 
Responsibilities:
ꞏ Prepares voyage plans and itinerary speed templates and forwarding to the Fleet Captain and the Port Captain (Navigation).
ꞏ Provides the Chief Engineer with Navigation information from one port to the other on the completion of each leg of the cruise.
ꞏ Ensures the latest edition of all electronic and paper navigational charts and publications pertinent to the vessel’s current and expected itineraries are onboard and maintained in good condition. Reviews all charts/publications that exist onboard and ensures they are posted at various locations for guest’s to view.
ꞏ Responsible for the daily winding of the chronometers, keeping a record book of their errors.
ꞏ Ensures all ship’s clocks, including those located in guests’ accommodation/lounges, are always showing the correct time zone.
In case of change, he/she must issue/distribute relative notes to all heads of departments the day before.
ꞏ Maintains all navigation equipment in good working order and is fully aware for their handling and operation.
ꞏ Keeps records of ship’s compass’ errors on the Gyro, Magnetic.
ꞏ Attends to the operation and maintenance of the ship’s steering gear and automatic pilot.
ꞏ Responsible for all entries in Log Book, following also all entries made by other Deck Officers during their watch.
ꞏ Aware of the contents of the daily weather reports keeping Master and Staff Captain informed accordingly. Responsible for the good condition of the meteorological instruments (Barometers, Barograph, Psychrometer, etc.).
ꞏ Details engine movements during manoeuvring time are entered in the log book (for ships without automatic recording system).
ꞏ Attends to the good condition of all flags (International code, Company ensigns, national flags, etc.) being responsible for the ship’s dressing in port as necessary.
ꞏ Responsible for the good condition of Festoon lights and their use in ports in cooperation with the Chief Electrical Engineer.
ꞏ Takes care of the navigation lights, including the emergency ones.
ꞏ Prepares the requisitions regarding stores and spares required for his/her department, subject to Staff Captain’s approval.
ꞏ Responsible before ship’s departure and before ship’s arrival in port to make the necessary checks in accordance with established company procedures.
ꞏ May be required to tests and maintain on a daily, weekly and monthly basis a per SOLAS and ISM regulations, all emergency supply sources (Accumulators, batteries and uninterrupted power supply) of all emergency equipment located in the Bridge and Radio Room.
ꞏ Responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment.
ꞏ Conducts workstation spot checks to ensure items are correctly stored to minimize deterioration and waste.
 
Language Requirements:
All shipboard employees must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers
Ability to communicate in the German Language
 
Rotation: 3 Months +/- 1 Months onboard; and 3 Months +/- 1 Months of vacation
Joining date: asap
 
Salary: 6.926 EUR per month whilst working onboard only
