Job Description
We’re looking for a talented 2D Game Animator to join our Tom & Jerry game team at ACE Games. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong Unity and Technical Art knowledge with solid 2D animation skills.
We’re looking for someone who can work directly inside the game, build and polish gameplay animations, create visual effects, work with shaders and materials, and also produce high-quality 2D animation in Spine.
You’ll work on everything from in-game puzzle and gameplay animations to expressive 2D Spine character and illustration animations.
Responsibilities
- Create and polish boosters, obstacles, and gameplay animations directly inside Unity
- Implement, test, and iterate animations in the game
- Create and adjust materials, shaders, and real-time visual effects in Unity
- Support gameplay visuals with particles, trails, masks, distortion, dissolve, glow, transitions, and other shader-based effects
- Work with Unity animation systems, timelines, prefabs, particle systems, and asset pipelines
- Create high-quality 2D animations in Spine for characters and illustrations
- Prepare and rig layered 2D illustrations for Spine animation
- Create polished animation sequences with strong timing, posing, anticipation, impact, and personality
- Collaborate closely with artists, game designers, developers
- Troubleshoot visual and technical issues related to animation and asset implementation
- Optimize animations, shaders, VFX, and visual assets for mobile performance
- Help improve workflows between Unity, Spine, and the art team
Requirements
- Strong Unity experience and confidence working directly inside the engine
- Understanding of Technical Art workflows in Unity
- Experience working with shaders and materials
- Familiarity with Shader Graph and real-time 2D visual effects
- Experience with Unity Particle System / VFX workflows
- Good understanding of masking, blending modes, render order, transparency, textures, and optimization
- Knowledge of Spine 2D
- Experience creating both gameplay-driven animations and character animations
- Strong understanding of animation fundamentals: timing, spacing, posing, weight, anticipation, follow-through, and exaggeration
- Ability to understand game mechanics and translate them into clear, satisfying visual feedback
- Strong sense of composition, readability, and visual storytelling
- Comfortable working with feedback and iterating quickly
- Experience in mobile games
Nice to have
- Experience writing or modifying custom shaders
- Knowledge of texture optimization, atlases, draw calls, batching, overdraw, and memory constraints
- Previous experience working closely with Technical Artists and gameplay programmers
