Job Description

The Opportunity

The Project Manager role is a communicator who brings people together to align and focus on the most important elements that meet the strategic objectives of the business. You are adept at building relationships based on transparency and accountability, and partner with business leaders to guide the delivery of tools and processes that will define how we deliver our products and services. You take human-centered approaches and can operate in both iterative agile and waterfall methodologies. You are adept at flexing your skills in a mixed environment of projects and squads. You leverage your key stakeholders as feedback channels while managing schedule and budget commitments. You share your knowledge freely and are always open to learning and adapting new approaches to better serve project and organization outcomes.

Location Vancouver, BC or any BC regional office (hybrid, 2 days+)

Reports to Leader, Project Management Office

The Project Manager-

Leads Integrated Planning

  • Oversee the discovery process and ensure the client perspective is being represented
  • Lead identification, measurement, and refinement of value measures, baselines, etc.
  • Develop integrated delivery plans covering scope, timelines, capacity, dependencies, and change impacts.
  • Monitor and share key internal and external dependencies, risks, and opportunities
  • Identify, facilitate, capture, and communicate the key business decisions that shape the project.

Drives Execution

  • Lead with human-centered approaches in both scrum and waterfall execution teams, including squads.
  • Build a strong sense of team with mutual accountability, ensuring commitments are met by holding others—and themselves—accountable in a respectful, professional manner.
  • Facilitate discovery, workshops, steering committees, in an inclusive manner
  • Play the role of scrum master, supporting key ceremonies for development, refinement and execution of a backlog.
  • Identify and track risks and explore mitigation strategies with project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Promote collaboration and drive decision-making in a consensus-based environment where there is natural and healthy tension between regulatory, operational, and client-based views of the safety system.
  • Ensure an operational readiness plan and change management plan are developed and executed.

Facilitates Open Communication

  • Share observations and insights with the project leadership team and core group, share and test your hypotheses to refine into valuable and achievable change.
  • Communicate project successes and challenges with stakeholders, senior leaders, and others with messaging tailored to your audience
  • Keep awareness of the project’s value outcomes at the front of mind for the team to ensure considered decision-making.
  • Celebrate team milestones and accomplishments and share with the organization.

Contributes to the Project Management Office (PMO)

  • Provide transparent and timely project updates to the PMO Leader, including notable project risks and opportunities
  • Contribute to, share with, and help develop the maturity of project management practices with a focus on human-centered design and agile approaches
  • Advocate for project management as a skill and seed best practices into the organization, may include mentoring or coaching opportunities

Knowledge, Skills and Experience you bring:

Required

  • 5 years managing complex and/or multi-stream projects.
  • Degree in business administration, computer science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (clear and concise).
  • Proven multi-group facilitation skills
  • Experience in all aspects of project management including discovery, evaluating options, execution, change management, and release management
  • Experience leading agile teams to successful outcomes
  • Proven ability to guide prioritization in a primarily capacity-constrained environment
  • Strong risk management and response planning capability with a high attention to detail

Nice-to-have

  • Scrum Master or other Agile designation (Preferred)
  • Client-centric approaches such as Human-Centered Design (HCD) or Design Thinking
  • PMP, PMI-ACP or other project management certification (Preferred)
  • Experience with longer term planning or strategic planning
