Job Description

The Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the University of New Haven invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time lecturer position beginning August 2024.

The Department seeks to hire full-time teaching faculty who will be responsible for teaching and providing leadership in our introductory environmental science classes as well as instruction in geoscience, environmental health, ecology, or related fields. Additionally, the ideal candidate for this position will provide instruction on research project planning and proposal writing at the graduate level. This position will play a key role in advising undergraduate students in the Marine and Environmental Sciences program and graduate students in the Environmental Science program. Additional administrative duties include assisting the department with student recruitment and retention and advising students including guidance on internship opportunities.

The Department seeks a colleague who is interested in developing relationships with the greater New Haven community and contributing to University efforts to educate the general public on environmental issues.

Our department is large and varied with undergraduate degrees in Biology, Genetics & Biotechnology, and Marine & Environmental Sciences and graduate master’s programs in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, and Marine Policy & Management. We value collaborative work and encourage innovative ideas that enhance the success of our students.

Qualifications

  • Successful candidates should have earned at least a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in environmental science, ecology, geology, environmental health and management, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of best teaching practices for student-centered learning.
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education.
  • Experience in the use of technology to enhance pedagogy.
  • University-level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Interest in developing and supporting student research projects is valued.
