About The Role

FTI Consulting, a top-tier international economic advisory firm, is looking to recruit an Intern for its energy team based in Paris to support its rapid growth.

WhatYou’llDo

The Intern will join a team of professionals with deepexpertiseand experience in the infrastructure and energy sectors, gained on complex, high-stakesand sophisticated economic,financialand strategic issues. These issues span five dimensions ofexpertisein the infrastructure and energy sectors:

Project Finance– FTI Consulting advises on project finance matters in the context of project debt restructuring, capital raising, infrastructure M&A, and sovereign advisory – Examples:

  • Advisinga group of 10 international lenders on the debt restructuring of a large independent power producer (IPP) in West Africa

  • Advising a transmission system operator (TSO) on designing a comprehensive and innovative financial strategy to finance interconnectors connecting offshore wind farms across the North Sea.

Strategy– FTI Consultingadvisesenergy companies and governments on how to position and invest in thedecarbonisationof energy systems – Examples:

  • Advising a Western European infrastructure company on the possible business models andrequiredfinancial public support,for the production ofrenewable gas (hydrogen or methane);

  • Advisingan African government on its 10-year gas import strategy, in the context of strong energy demand growth

Dispute– FTI Consulting acts as an independent economic expert in complex and high-stakes disputes toadvisetribunals on energy markets issues and the quantification of damages – Examples:

  • Assessing the lost profits of a terminated hydropower plant project in Southern Europe in an investment dispute between a power company and the State

  • Assessing the economic implications of the determination of the disputed maritime border between two African countries, focusing on offshore oil and gas production

Regulation– FTI Consulting advises energy ministries, regulators and regulated companies on the design and impact of regulatory regimes applicable to electricity, gas, carbon, fuelsand related markets – Examples:

  • Designing a new, comprehensive, incentive-based regulatory regime for the electricity sector over the next 12 years, inandeveloping country aiming to further liberalize its electricity sector

  • Assessing the quantitative impact of several proposed reforms of the EU’s carbon market on carbon emissions, carbon price, electricitypriceand investments in future power generation

Transaction– FTI Consulting advisesinvestors and contracting parties on energy asset transactions and long-term energy supply and infrastructure contracts – Examples:

  • Conducting commercial due diligence on a French smart meter company for a potential international acquirer

  • Negotiating a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement for a new 400 MW power plant for the Energy Ministry of an African country

The intern will be based at FTI Consulting's central Paris office, with sporadic international travels ifpermitted The intern will work within focused teams, supervised by senior professionals who will help frame analyses and transfer theirexpertiseto help the Intern develop his/her industry understanding and analytical skills.

In practice, you will receive training and coaching on how to:

  • Apply structured thinking to systematically work through and solve complex economic, strategic, and financial problems

  • Synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and actionable insights and use storytelling to craft compelling and persuasive messages tailored to different audiences

  • Create financial models for valuation,forecastingand investment decision-making; and create market models quantifying supply and demand of commodities such as electricity, gas, CO2 markets, or emerging products such as low-carbon hydrogen

  • Develop industry-specificexpertiseand gain in-depth knowledge of the infrastructure sector, energy and mining markets incl. electricity, gas/LNG, CO2, critical minerals and emerging products such as biofuels, low-carbonhydrogenand derivatives (e-ammonia, e-methanol, etc.)

We promote continuous learning and development through on-the-job learning, self-guided professional developmentcoursesand certifications. Upon joining us, you will be assigned a dedicated coach to mentor, guide and supportyoueach step of the way.

What You Will Need to Succeed

Internwill be expected to work on several strategic,economicor regulatory projects at the same time, delivering their work with increasing autonomy.

To deliver effective analyses, the successful candidates should have demonstrated a strong interest in the energy and infrastructure industry, through their degree and/or previous internships, ideally on strategic, economic, financial and/or regulatory issues in the energy sector (renewables, electricity, H2, carbon market, natural gas, oil...).

The successful candidate is further expected topossess

  • Availability to start between January and March2027

  • Academic background: Exceptional academic credentials in Finance, Economics, Management, and/or Engineering from a top-tier international university (Master'sdegree or higher)

  • Quantitative skills: A robust quantitative background to perform detailed economic and financial analyses. Knowledge in financial analysis, although not a requirement, would be positively assessed

  • Attention to detail:A high levelof rigor in work execution, with attention to details

  • Adaptability: A capability to be flexible and adapt quickly to the diversity of assignments, anddifferent typesof client configurations

  • Communication skills: Strong communications skills, both orally and in written form, which will allow the candidate to present his or her work todecision-makersin an effective and convincing manner

  • Continuousimprovement:A willingness to learn continuously and to face new challenges

  • The candidates must be able to speak and write fluently in English. Working knowledge of French is a plus and anyadditionallanguage will be positively assessed
