Northrop Grumman is seeking a Survivability Engineer for a Fall 2027 Co-Op. This position will be located at our Aeronautics Systems Sector in El Segundo, CA. As a Co-Op, the qualified candidate will gain exposure and insight into developing, delivering, and maintaining Survivable systems. The Co-Op will apply fundamental understanding of relevant physics and scientific principles from the classroom, as they learn what it means to be low observable from clean-sheet design through sustainment. During the semester, the qualified candidate may support one or more of the sub-disciplines within Survivability:

  • Component- and system-level signature design, modeling, and analysis in the electromagnetic (EM) / radio frequency (RF), infrared (IR), visual (VIS) and/or acoustic spectrums
  • RF measurement / testing (Tiers 0-3), with post-test data analysis
  • Liaison engineering, supporting technicians with job inspections, defect disposition and guidance, and all-up system assessments
  • Material & Process development, testing, and application
  • Mission Systems design, integration and test

The qualified candidate may also support one or more of the key responsibilities of a Survivability Engineer, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating with designers and supportability / maintainability engineers to ensure component and system compliance with Survivability requirements
  • Developing and integrating advanced technology to reduce system detectability
  • Implementing and manipulating analytical codes; building and analyzing virtual models, optimizing designs, troubleshooting issues, and performing trend analysis
  • Designing, planning, and executing RCS/RF tests (Tier 0-3), to include determining test requirements, selecting testing methods and measurements, operating and maintaining equipment, executing setup and test events, and delivering pre-/post-test reports
  • Analyzing component and system test results and delivering recommendations on materials, capabilities, and other aspects of Survivability performance
  • Coordinating with suppliers / vendors on material, technology, and equipment design, delivery, implementation and test, to include developing requirements, writing SOWs, providing engineering oversight, and tracking / reporting performance

Basic Qualifications:

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be able to work onsite full-time during the Fall 2027 semester (estimated August 2027 - December 2027)

  • Be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) access via a Program Access Request (PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of, or experience in, one or more of the Survivability sub-disciplines, across one or more of the spectrums (RF, IR, Visual, Acoustic), including design and analysis, measurement, integration and test, mission system integration, and liaison engineering
  • Experience working across engineering disciplines to establish requirements and develop a balanced design that meets the customer’s mission objectives
  • Experience in one or more CAD tools (CATIA, NX, etc.)
  • Programming / scripting experience in Python, C/C++, Matlab, or other language
