Job Description

Verisk's Summer Internship Program runs July 1st – September 30th. This is a paid, full‑time opportunity (40 hours per week). Participation requires being located near your assigned office, as the program follows a hybrid model with at least 2 days per week on-site.

We are looking for a Business Analyst Intern to support our Core Lines organization. You will work closely with product managers, project managers and technical teams (data engineering, analytics, cloud) to help coordinate work, improve processes, and support strategic initiatives. The role combines strong analytical thinking with project coordination and technical understanding.

  • Business Analyst with Project Management skills, Jira experience, and technical background
  • Business Analyst focused on process automation
  • Analyze data-related processes, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements in workflows, automation, or communication.
  • Support project and product management activities, including business requirements, workflow tracking, and coordinating discussions between technical and business stakeholders.
  • Support review and analysis of technical solutions, including data processing logic and quality checks, to enable effective work prioritization and clear definition of acceptance criteria.
  • Support production‑grade automation through development of scripts and services for data processing (Python, SQL)
  • Create, update and maintain documentation, process maps, technical notes, and business requirements.

What will you learn?

  • How technical teams work: ETL concepts, data validation workflows, and collaboration with engineers.
  • How to translate business needs into automated data processing solutions, following best practices for robustness, quality, and maintainability.
  • Practical project management techniques, including documentation standards, requirements gathering, prioritization, and stakeholder communication.
  • Gain hands-on experience using Jira to coordinate team activities and assist with automation.
  • Fundamentals of the insurance domain and exposure to actuarial & analytics concepts.
  • Learn how to create and understand process maps using UML, ERD, and timeline based diagrams
  • Enrolled in the last year of a Bachelor's or Master’s program in Business, Economics, Project Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with data analysis and technical tools (SQL & Python strongly preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of scripting, databases, and ETL concepts, with the ability to apply them in practical data tasks.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Jira or other project management tools.
  • Fluent in English; able to work both independently and in a team.
  • Comfortable learning technical concepts and working with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience or coursework in project management or agile methodologies.
  • Basic familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments.
  • Data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Basic automation in MS Office (Excel).
