Job Description

Runner (Seasonal )

Location: Red Salmon Cannery

The Runner supports daily logistics and operational needs between the processing plant and the fishing fleet. This position serves as a key point of coordination for fishermen services, equipment tracking, deliveries, inventory control, and general operational support throughout the salmon season. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial and maritime environment.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Season Preparation

  • Organize and transport stored fishing nets and gear to the net yard
  • Coordinate gear storage and organize fisherman equipment areas
  • Assist with airport pickups for incoming personnel
  • Coordinate deliveries and pickups with freight companies (AML)
  • Track incoming gear inventory and maintain accurate records
  • Map and organize net yard storage locations
  • Prepare resale pallets and operational supplies for the season
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of fisherman locker areas
  • Supervise unloading of nets and fishing gear from tenders
  • Issue and track equipment such as scales and pelican hooks

Daily / Weekly Operations

  • Run operational errands including purchasing and picking up supplies
  • Coordinate mail pickup and delivery for fishermen and vessels
  • Transport nets and gear between the plant and boat yard
  • Track movement of nets, gear, parts, and mail in and out of the facility
  • Deliver fisherman totes and equipment as requested
  • Coordinate grocery orders with kitchen staff for vessel requests
  • Process internal charges for equipment or products issued to fishermen
  • Prepare purchase orders and receipts for accounting
  • Maintain accurate logistics records and inventory tracking systems

During Salmon Season

  • Track gear and net movement using inventory systems (ex: GoCodes)
  • Coordinate grocery and supply requests for tenders
  • Prepare and organize outgoing mail shipments based on vessel schedules
  • Coordinate with other fishermen service teams to maintain accurate gear logs

Post-Season Responsibilities

  • Coordinate shipment of company vehicles and equipment
  • Organize cleanup of net yard and storage areas
  • Conduct end-of-season inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Assist with shutdown logistics and storage preparation

Qualifications

  • 18+ years old.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Basic computer skills (inventory systems, email, spreadsheets)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in an industrial environment
  • Previous logistics, warehouse, maritime, or operations experience preferred

Work Environment

  • Seasonal position in a remote Alaska salmon processing operation
  • Combination of warehouse, dock, yard, and office work
  • Fast-paced environment during peak fishing periods
  • Long hours may be required during peak season
  • Position will be exposed to different levels of stress and responsibilities
