
Serves as a member of the Management Development Program (MDP) and participates in ten weeks of Core Training and one year of On-the-Job (OJT) training. Core Training responsibilities include participation in classroom training, observations of departmental presentations, interaction with senior management, peer networking, and working in teams on two group project assignments. OJT responsibilities vary by department and are assigned by the department manager. The position may be responsible for additional projects as assigned by the department manager or Leadership Development Manager-MDP.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Audit division provides independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve the M&T Bank’s operations. Audit helps our organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. An MDP within the Audit division would be working alongside a team to identify risk and control opportunities within a business line, partner with team to develop and execute testing of an audit and provide recommendations to the business line going forward.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
You’ll work within the Audit team on several different initiatives. Your day-to-day work will include:
Executing assigned audit tasks in a risk focused manner while maintaining independence and adhering to department and professional industry standards and within established budget and timeframe.
Assisting in the execution and documentation of audit testing to support the delivery of high quality, value-added audit reports for a variety of business activities, which meet the requirements of the Audit Committee and regulatory expectations.
Adhering to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Communicating and present directly to leadership in Audit: including department directors, as well as senior management.
Maintaining M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators, as applicable.

After learning the fundamentals of audit methodology, there are established career tracks within the Audit Division to become a subject matter expert in the technology, mortgage, wealth services, consumer auditing space, and leading an auditing team. If an MDP has an interest in as a career leveraging their data analyst skills, there is an opportunity within the Audit division to work directly with Audit teams and the LOB as a data analyst within a specific portfolio. Audit provides the unique opportunity to gain insight into the strategic drivers, risks and challenges each business line at M&T Bank faces, you may gain exposure to various Divisions within the Bank.
The Management Development Program is a non-rotational, one-year training program for recent college graduates where participants learn sales, accounting, project management and leadership skills depending upon their career track. Various methods of training include classroom study, divisional orientations, and teamwork on group projects. These fundamentals are coupled with on-the-job training to allow for immediate application in the area for which the participant has been hired.
