The CNE, often affectionately referred to as The Ex, is Canada’s largest community event and one of the top ten agricultural fairs in North America, attracting approximately 1.6 million visitors annually over the course of its 18-day run. About the Role (Prior to Move-In):

  • Familiarize yourself with Exhibitor Rules and Regulations, the Concessions Handbook (both will be provided) and emergency and fire procedures contained in Procedures Manual which will be available in the Show Offices.
  • Contact all trade personnel where needed to assist in any service requirements for food concessionaires and building requirements. For example: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC etc.
  • Assist in all areas of Concessionaire Move In, Opening and Closing of the Horse Palace, Safety and Security of the Building at all times.

About the Role (During Move-In):

  • Coordinate deliveries at the north side of the building, ensuring that the Roll-up door is kept clear and in a safe condition at all times.
  • Minimize parking on Manitoba Dr, requesting vehicles to park in the allocated Parking Lots, as needed
  • Liaise with CNE and contract Security Guards on duty.
  • Monitor concessionaire ins and outs asking for ID when necessary.
  • Monitor vehicle movement in building (golf carts) ensuring egress and exits are not blocked.
  • Direct Concessionaires to where they can purchase their parking and admit to grounds passes – Salon 105 in Hall A in the Admissions/Credentials office.
  • Ensure no open-toe shoes are worn as well no children under the age of 16 are on the show floor
  • Ensure all concessionaires are given keys to their individual gate locks as they arrive to load in
  • Ensure a 1-meter gap is kept open in all storage lanes, at all times

About the Role (During the CNE):

  • Liaise with the Midway & Concessions Coordinator at all times, to ensure they are informed of any incidents, events, etc. that take place in the building.
  • Enforce the rules and regulations for the building, to be followed by all exhibitors as outlined in the “Rules and Regulations”.
  • Liaise with CNE and contract security guards.
  • Enforce our requirements for concessionaires to have gates locked when they are not in use, and that isle are kept clean and free of debris.
  • Keep a daily log sheet of all incidents/problems that occur in the building.
  • Monitor concessionaire ins and outs asking for ID when necessary
  • Hourly walk-throughs and roaming to ensure that the entire building is kept orderly, and that any security issues are identified proactively.
  • Liaise with CNE Management regarding move-in and out of plush, on a daily basis
  • Other Duties as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the move in and move out of all Retail Exhibitors
  • Ensure that all safety protocols are met
  • During the event, monitor the outdoor retail exhibits to ensure they remain in their allotted space
  • Monitor the set-up of the outdoor retail areas ensuring the tents are installed according to outdoor retail master plan
  • Making on the spot decisions quickly and efficiently
  • Has experience in a managerial role or equivalent

Special Conditions

  • Must be 22 or older
  • Must be able to stand or remain in stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work indoors & outdoors for extended periods and in all weather conditions (sun, heat, wind, cold, rain)
  • Required to work in an environment that has animals (horses) hay, dust, dander, and other allergens
  • The building is open 24 hours and will require staff over the 24-hour period
  • Required to dress in appropriate uniform
  • There is an overnight shift that will need to be covered
  • Participate in the Emergency Management Response Team
  • Handle enquiries from outdoor retail exhibitors and all concessionaires on a daily basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned
