About the IRC

Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognised technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognised multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.

About the Job

The Terminal Cloud Technology Lab is seeking for a visionary Technical Leader to pioneer the next generation of content intelligence. In this role, you will build and lead a high-performing local algorithm team dedicated to solving complex multimodal understanding challenges across video, audio, image, and text. Leveraging cutting-edge Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), you will architect a self-evolving content analysis ecosystem. Your work will directly empower our core recommendation engine to achieve a transformative leap in product performance and user engagement.

Responsibilities

• Define and Lead Frameworks: Establish multimodal content intelligence frameworks focused on semantic understanding, narrative reasoning, and high-level content interpretation across video, text, image, and audio.

• Roadmap Ownership: Define the mid-to-long-term technical strategy for content understanding, ensuring alignment between state-of-the-art AI research and core business growth objectives.

• Architect Scalable Systems: Build and oversee large-scale systems for automated semantic tagging, categorization, and content classification to replace traditional manual processes.

• Global Collaboration: Define the long-term technical direction and work closely with global research, product, and engineering teams to integrate content intelligence into core recommendation and discovery systems.

• Team Leadership: Build and mentor a world-class local team of AI/ML experts, fostering a culture of technical excellence and product-driven innovation.

• Help the team solve high-impact technical challenges such as: - build a self-evolving tagging system that supports open-vocabulary recognition and automated reconstruction of existing tag trees to match rapid business growth.

-model popularity and trend prediction by identifying highlights and dramatic elements in videos, or rhythmic and melodic patterns in music, to forecast distribution performance.

-architect a comprehensive quality evaluation system to filter and identify premium content across diverse categories, such as mini-dramas, spatial audio, and images.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning or related field

• 10+ years experience in AI / ML research or advanced engineering

• Strong experience in several of the following areas: - Multimodal learning (video, text, image, audio) - Video understanding, temporal modelling, or sequence modelling - NLP / text understanding (e.g. content quality, news stream analysis, semantic evaluation) - Content classification, tagging, recommendation, or search systems

• Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX

• Experience working with multimodal or vision-language models (VLM / MLLM)

• Experience building or deploying large-scale AI systems in production environments

• Strong understanding of evaluation methodologies, data pipelines, or content intelligence systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Research Excellence: A strong publication record in top-tier international conferences (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS).

• Proven Impact: Experience building large-scale content understanding platforms or automated tagging systems from scratch.

• Passionate about staying at the forefront of Generative AI and Multimodal LLMs.
