Job Description

Location: Dublin, Ireland

About Huawei

Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. We are committed to bringing digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.

At Huawei, we have two key drivers of innovation: science and technology, and customer needs. Both commercial value and market demands are driving our innovation and determining how we invest in science and technology. Breakthroughs in technology, in return, stimulate customer needs and allow us to create greater value for customers.

About the IRC

Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognised technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognised multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.

About the Job

The Terminal Cloud Technology Lab is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Expert in Multimodal AI and Content Quality Intelligence at our Ireland Research Centre (Dublin). As a founding technical leader in Europe, a critical part of your mandate will be to establish, scale, and mentor a world-class applied research team from its inception.

You will lead the applied research and co-development of a next-generation content intelligence engine, specifically engineered to pioneer purely content-driven distribution, behavior-agnostic quality assessment, and aesthetic-aware content understanding for complex video formats. In this role, you will have hands-on ownership of the core multimodal research agenda and a direct line of communication with project stakeholders to guide its development from algorithmic research to model delivery, shaping the future of our content ecosystem.

You will work within an international and fast-paced environment, tackling deeply technical problems in direct collaboration with product engineering teams in China to define the global standard for modern, automated, and aesthetically-aware content evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Multimodal Quality & Aesthetic Representation: Adapt and fine-tune state-of-the-art Vision-Language-Audio foundation models to develop robust, transferable representations of content quality across technical, structural, and aesthetic dimensions.

  • Explainable Quality Assessment: Formulate objective functions and evaluation frameworks to comprehensively quantify overall content value, leveraging multimodal information, domain knowledge bases, and post-hoc validation data, rather than proxies derived from user engagement patterns. Design explainable pipelines capable of generating actionable feedback to guide content creators in producing high-quality, visually compelling, and meaningful work.

  • Content Value & Cross-Cultural Quality Alignment: Drive innovations in evaluating narrative flow, logical consistency, and semantic richness across diverse video formats. Translating cutting-edge research into modelling outputs that integrate seamlessly with product development across our international organisation.

  • Technical Strategy & Team Building: Serve as the foundational technical authority in Dublin. Define the long-term applied research agenda, recruit high-caliber scientists, and establish a seamless research-to-handoff pipeline that enables product engineering teams to integrate and deploy modelling outputs at scale.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of industrial R&D experience, with a proven track record of adapting and applying SOTA multimodal models (e.g., Video Transformers, Large Vision-Language Models) to real-world problems at scale.

  • Deep expertise in fine-tuning, parameter-efficient adaptation, and representation learning from complex spatio-temporal data.

  • Strong publication record in top-tier AI/CV venues (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS) or equivalent patents/industry impact.

  • Proven experience in establishing, leading, and expanding high-performing algorithmic or applied research teams in a greenfield or high-growth environment.

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in aesthetic computing, art understanding, human perception modelling, or related areas of content semantics is a strong plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary package

  • Long-term personal growth space

  • Opportunities to collaborate with leading experts and Huawei Fellows and world-renowned professors

  • A multi-cultural, international working environment

  • Work for an international world leader, an established yet still rapidly growing Fortune 500 company
