The Tax Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring full compliance with Philippine tax laws and regulations, including BIR requirements and local government tax obligations. The role manages both direct and indirect tax compliance, leads tax audits and assessments, and acts as the primary liaison with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), local government units (LGUs), and external tax advisors. The position plays a critical role in managing tax risks, supporting statutory and management reporting, and strengthening tax governance and controls within the organization.

Philippine Tax Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation, review, and filing of all Philippine tax returns and reports, including but not limited to:
    • Corporate Income Tax (Quarterly and Annual ITR)
    • Expanded and Final Withholding Taxes
    • Value‑Added Tax (VAT)
    • Percentage Tax (where applicable)
    • Documentary Stamp Tax (DST)
    • Local Business Tax, Real Property Tax, and other LGU‑imposed taxes
    • PEZA and/or BOI reports
  • Ensure compliance with BIR registrations, updates, and reporting requirements (e.g., books of accounts, ATPs, ORs).
  • Monitor and ensure correct application of Philippine tax rules on revenue recognition, expenses deductibility, and withholding.

Tax Audits, Assessments & BIR Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for BIR audits, tax mapping, field investigations, and assessments.
  • Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and documentary support for tax audits and deficiency tax cases.
  • Manage responses to BIR notices (PAN, FAN, FLD), protests, and other regulatory communications.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and legal counsel on dispute resolution, settlements, and rulings, as needed.

Statutory Reporting & Tax Accounting

  • Review and support current and deferred tax computations for statutory and management reporting.
  • Ensure proper booking of tax provisions, accruals, and payments in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Perform tax reconciliations between tax returns, statutory financial statements, and management reports.
  • Manage the BIR-accredited Computerized Accounting System

Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Transactions

  • Support Philippine tax compliance aspects of intercompany transactions, including management fees and service charges.
  • Ensure withholding tax, VAT, and deductibility requirements are properly applied to related‑party transactions.
  • Coordinate with Group Tax and Finance to ensure alignment between transfer pricing documentation, local tax filings, and financial records.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Drive standardization and documentation of Philippine tax processes and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation, system enhancements, and better data management.
  • Strengthen tax internal controls and support internal audit, external audit, and regulatory compliance initiatives.

Advisory & Stakeholder Support

  • Provide practical Philippine tax guidance to Finance, HR, Procurement, and Operations teams.
  • Support business initiatives (e.g., new activities, contracts, restructuring) by assessing Philippine tax compliance and risk implications.
  • Monitor changes in Philippine tax laws, regulations, and BIR issuances, and communicate impacts to management in a timely manner.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and develop tax analysts or shared services staff supporting Philippine tax compliance.
  • Review work prepared by the team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Coach and upskill team members on Philippine tax rules and best practices.

Qualifications

Education & Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or Finance.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Additional tax training or certification is an advantage.

Experience

  • 6–10 years of Philippine tax compliance experience, preferably within:
    • Multinational companies
    • Shared services or regional finance organizations
    • Public accounting or tax consulting firms
  • Strong hands‑on experience with BIR audits, tax assessments, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Practical knowledge of Philippine withholding tax, VAT, and corporate income tax rules.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of Philippine tax laws, BIR regulations, PEZA and BOI Incentives compliance, and LGU tax requirements.
  • Strong understanding of tax accounting and its linkage to statutory financial reporting.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and tax computation tools; strong Excel skills required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
