POSITION: Music Teacher (Grades 5 - 8) (Temporary)
LOCATION: Delmar Middle School

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Delaware certification as a Music Teacher K-12 (Del. Admin. Code 1563).
- Satisfactory Child Protection Registry
- Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation
- Cooperative Attitude
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents.
- Good oral and written communication with the ability to present information effectively.
- The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
- Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.
- The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain a successful middle level music, band, and choral program, including introductory/exploratory options.
- Teach music and instrumental techniques including but not limited to: balance, blend, timing, intonation, expression, phrasing and technique.
- Teach 5th Grade Introductory/Exploratory Band that focuses on foundational musical skills, instrument selection and basic performance techniques.
- Teach choral techniques, including but not limited to: blend, balance, phrasing, style, good tone production and quality, proper breathing and proper vowel formation.
- Teach marching techniques, including but not limited to: marching, movement, drill and field techniques.
- Attend and perform at selected community and school parades (e.g., Homecoming and Christmas), pep rallies and other similar events.
- Keep accurate attendance records for classes, rehearsals, and performances.
- Create and teach lesson plans, aid students in understanding subject matter, and ensure that classroom routines are followed in accordance with school guidelines.
- Maintain an orderly and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning, enforcing school rules and classroom behavior expectations consistently.
- Monitor students' academic progress through accurate grades and assessments.
- Maintain communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff as needed.
- Provide band performance opportunities for the ensemble—a minimum of 2 per year and choral performance opportunities for the ensemble – a minimum of 2 per year (may be on the same evenings).
- Organizing and leading school concerts in the Winter and Spring
- Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials.
- Practice sound interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and families.
- Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
- Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested.
- Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law.
- Perform other duties as directed by the school administration.
- The teacher must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is required to fluently speak and understand English.
- While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
- While performing the duties of this job, expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
SALARY: As per state and local salary schedules for FY27 based upon verified experience and educational degree.
