Job Description

The Faculty of Success by Design in University College at Arizona State University invites applications to establish a pool for Success by Design Faculty Associates for the 2026-2027 academic year. The successful candidate(s) will teach required courses that support students as they leverage their strengths and build skills needed to persist to graduation. Faculty Associates primarily teach:

  • UNI 120, Problem Solving for Success - Students build a strong creative problem-solving practice and learn ways to tackle common problem-solving roadblocks

  • UNI 220, Mindset Connections - Students learn how beliefs, perceptions, mindsets, and choices influence behavior, and how they can leverage an understanding of procrastination, motivation, and habit to their personal advantage.

Through our engaging, active classes, students can choose projects and practices that support their growth goals. As part of the Success by Design team, you will facilitate student-centered classes and support student flourishing across multiple dimensions. Faculty Associates should come to their work with a basic understanding of growth mindset, design thinking, strengths-based approaches, and inquiry-based learning.

Success by Design faculty will participate in pre-semester training, follow program policies, hold office hours, engage with mentors, and actively engage in up to three faculty meetings during the semester. Faculty Associate positions are one-semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of 0.40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Essential Functions

  • Complete Onboarding & Training: Participate in all required preparation activities before teaching.
  • Teach Assigned Course(s): Deliver course content effectively and engage students in learning.

  • Attend Faculty Office Hours: Be available weekly to support students and engage in course feedback discussions.

  • Manage Canvas Course Shell: Maintain course materials, announcements, and communication within the learning platform.

  • Grade Assignments & Provide Feedback: Evaluate student work promptly and offer individualized, constructive, and actionable feedback.

  • Respond to Student Inquiries: Answer questions and provide guidance in a timely and supportive manner.

  • Support Student Development: Encourage and assist students in their academic, career, and personal growth.

  • Engage in our Community of Practice: Partner with a full-time faculty mentor and attend faculty meetings focused on supporting your development as a facilitator.

  • Follow Department Protocols: Adhere to established procedures for addressing student care and support concerns.

  • Submit Final Grades: Ensure grades are submitted accurately and on time by the designated deadline.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field at the time of appointment

  • Evidence of excellent teaching/student support ability

  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Terminal Degree in a related field

  • Two years of teaching at a post-secondary institution, four years of experience teaching at a high school (9-12th grade), or four years of experience in student support services at a post-secondary institution or high school, e.g., advisor, student counselor, or student psychologist

  • Demonstrated success in meeting the needs of student populations with varied backgrounds and experiences

  • Experience teaching or working with students who are first-year, first-generation, or in the process of academic recovery

  • Experience applying, utilizing, or teaching design thinking, emotional intelligence, social psychology, sociology, or learning science concepts and/or student success strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
