WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are hiring part-time STEM & ART specialists with experience teaching these specialties in our after school enrichment programs. As a valued member of Kids in the Game, you will be able to help us follow and model our 5 organizational core values through action:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

The After School STEM & Art Specialist is responsible for delivering creative, hands-on science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and art activities for students in Pre-K through Middle School. This role is designed for an enthusiastic, innovative educator who can inspire curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity while supporting the physical and social-emotional growth of young people. Depending on your availability and skill set, you can expect to work between 10 to 15 hours per week, earning a competitive hourly rate. Our coaches and specialists typically work in various schools throughout the weeks.

As a STEM or Art Enrichment Coach, you can expect to:

Programming and Facilitation

  • Design and lead engaging, age-appropriate STEM and art projects that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and exploration.
  • Introduce STEM concepts through fun, hands-on experiments, building challenges, and interactive lessons.
  • Adapt lessons to meet varying skill levels and interests while ensuring activities remain inclusive and accessible.
  • Encourage collaboration, innovation, and self-expression in all activities.
  • Commit to partaking in all enrichment coach trainings throughout the school year
    • Virtual and in person

Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Build positive relationships with students, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment.
  • Model curiosity, problem-solving, and a growth mindset to inspire participants.
  • Provide positive reinforcement and guidance to support confidence and skill development.
  • Model and promote positive character development and healthy peer interactions.
  • Use positive language at all times when engaging with the students.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the site director to coordinate schedules, materials, and activity spaces.
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Director regarding student progress, participation, and any concerns.
  • Support overall program operations, including transitions, attendance tracking, and student supervision.

Safety & Supervision

  • Ensure all equipment and materials are used safely and appropriately.
    Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom or activity area.
  • Follow all program policies and serve as a positive role model for youth.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts, following organizational policies.
  • Actively supervise all students to ensure a safe and structured environment.

Professionalism & Representation

  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to actively engage with youth.
    • Lateness and absences will be tracked through our call out policy
    • Excessive tardiness and absences could result in reduced schedules or more.
  • Be prepared in proper uniform for every day of program.
    • Company shirt or sweater (log visible at all times)
    • Sneakers / Close-Toed walking shoes
      • No Crocs or sandals
    • Athletic shorts or sweatpants
  • Uphold the organization’s mission and values both in and out of the program.
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.

Compensation This is a part-time, hourly position. We offer competitive hourly rates in the range of $22-29 / hour for Enrichment Coaches based on prior experience as a general coach, teacher, youth development specialist, or activity specialist.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO LOVE ABOUT YOU

Our ideal candidate would meet some or all of the following qualifications:

  • Possess at least two years of prior experience teaching STEM or art to groups of students of elementary and / or middle school children.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to relate to younger children, work with different age groups, and partner with school staff to support children’s physical and emotional needs.
  • Passionate about youth development and providing a fun, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Be available to work Monday - Friday during after school hours (2-6pm) to teach STEM and / or art lessons and help children prepare for ongoing performances.
  • Ability to reliably commute to multiple locations throughout the week to teach classes throughout NYC.
  • Up-to-date physical and tuberculosis test documentation will be required before starting.
  • You must pass Federal and NY State background checks and be willing to complete Department of Education fingerprinting prior to starting.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are a plus.

About Kids in the Game

Kids in the Game is a provider of youth sports programs in the New York City area, covering after-school, recess, and physical education programs, as well as specialized camps and clinics. Kids in the Game was founded on the principle that organized programs and activities outside of the classroom are integral parts of a child's learning development. Our physical education curriculum meets the New York State Standards for Health, Physical Education and Family and Consumer Sciences.

Our professionally trained coaches have broad and diverse backgrounds in the field of physical education and athletics. Our staff consists of current and former college coaches and athletes, as well as graduates with strong backgrounds in health and fitness education. Our goal is to teach all kids the importance of health and fitness as a way of life, and have designed programs for general studies, special needs, and sport-specific groups.
