Job Description

First line, done properly, is the difference between a working organisation
and a stalled one.

You would be the first-line support technician for end-user devices at a multinational defence
site in Brunssum, Netherlands — the person users actually see, handing out equipment, taking it
back, and fixing what breaks. Mostly on-site, with some remote working, and occasional work at
other sites in the Netherlands and Germany.

What you will be doing

  • Direct end-user support and customer contact: issuing end-user equipment, collecting it when
someone leaves, and resolving every device-related incident
  • Configuring hardware and software environments for the systems being integrated, installing
or removing components to instruction, and confirming installations work
  • Producing integration test specifications, running the tests and reporting the outcomes
  • Running standard tests and contributing to fault investigation
  • Preparing and maintaining the operational workstation baseline across several networks
  • Making sure security updates, anti-malware and data-loss-prevention endpoints deploy
successfully, and that hardening through security settings and group policy holds
  • Installing and documenting remote application provisioning, including Windows Remote App
  • Contributing to hardware platform design and installation decisions — cost, performance,
tooling — and changing platforms with minimal disruption
  • Liaising with the centralised service desk on incident, problem and change management, and
working with local technical staff, wider teams, customer contacts and external companies

What you will need

  • Recent experience — within the last three years — as first-line support for modern, networked
end-user devices: notebooks, monitors, printers and the rest
  • Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with two years of relevant experience, or
    a secondary qualification with four
  • At least two years supporting hardware, software, networks and computers in a large
    organisation
  • Hands-on client provisioning, application deployment and bare-metal installs with MDT and
    SCCM
  • Practical troubleshooting of client OS and software provisioning problems
  • The Microsoft operating system line, with real depth on Windows 10 and 11
  • Implementing and administering large Active Directory environments
  • Clear communication — this is a user-facing job — and proficient English
  • ITIL Foundation certification is required

Why this one is worth a look

It is a critical requirement at a busy site, with real ownership of the workstation baseline
and the hardening on it rather than a queue of password resets.
