Job Description

Processes, tests and reports the results of patient specimens. Responsible for safety procedures, quality control, proficiency testing and maintenance of laboratory equipment to maintain certification of laboratory according to CLIA guidelines.
Performs testing and identification procedures required on serology and microbiology specimens submitted to the laboratory. Performs procedures necessary for the accurate accessioning of specimens from receiving to reporting; prepares reagents, stains, and other items as required; and performs all necessary quality control procedures. Ensures safety procedures are followed and performs necessary maintenance of laboratory equipment. Participates in proficiency testing. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Training: Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program. Two (2) years of work related laboratory experience, or one (1) year of formal training and one (1) year work related laboratory experience, or 30 hours from an accredited college or university in a job related field or a combination of the two. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must be able to distinguish colors. Physical/Environmental Requirements: Ability to lift, push and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted.
